Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Doctor Who star Maya Woolfe has died aged 72.

The actress appeared in some of the biggest shows across the BBC and ITV during her impressive 20-year career.

The official social media channels for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet announced the news ‘with sadness’ in a statement on Friday, in which they listed some of Maya’s acting achievements.

The statement read: ‘With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Series 1, Episode 11, ‘The Lovers’.

‘Maya’s many TV appearances included ‘The Professionals’, ‘Bergerac’, and ‘Doctor Who’.

‘We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.’

Maya is best known for playing Uli in series one, episode 11 of ITV comedy-drama Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

She appeared in an episode called The Lovers back in January 1984, in which she played the love interest of Jimmy Nail’s character Oz Osborne.

The pair headed on a date after Gary Holten’s character Wayne Norris mistakenly identified Oz as a wealthy tycoon’s son.

Maya’s role proved to be a pivotal in the episode as it lead to one of the most memorable lines in the show as Uli chatted away to Oz at swanky bar, the Tivoli.

While discussing his apparent inheritance, Uli asks: ‘In the meantime you are just one of the boys?’, to which Oz replies: ‘Look again, pet. One of the men!’

The comedy series about a group of Geordie construction workers working on a site in Düsseldorf ran from November 1983 to December 2004.

Fans were in agreement of Maya’s key part in the great episode as they took to X to pay tribute in the wake of her death.

They penned: ‘That’s sad news. She played a great part in another great episode. RIP Maya’

In addition to Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Maya also appeared in Doctor Who as a receptionist.

Other roles included playing a secretary in an episode of The Detectives, a character called Claire in The Professionals and a character called Nikki in Bergerac.

Further TV parts for Maya included Tenko, Triangle, Wilde Alliance, Lief zijn voor elkaar, Dutch Cops, The Black Magic Man and C.A.T.S Eyes.
