West Ham United have said that their striker Michail Antonio has been involved in a car accident, but is “in a stable condition”.
A club statement said: “West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area. Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital. At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family. The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course.”
West Ham are next in action on Monday evening when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Antonio, who started his career in non-league football, has made 268 Premier League appearances for West Ham, scoring 68 goals, since joining in 2015 from Nottingham Forest.
The thoughts of everyone at the Premier League are with Antonio, the club, his family and friends.
