Credit: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/john-cena-reveals-past-skin-cancer-diagnosis-as-he-teams-with-neutrogena-on-a-sun-care-campaign-11705635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People<\/a>, the\u00a0<em>Daddy\u2019s Home\u00a0<\/em>actor revealed the campaign is very close to his heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up in a small town next to Newburyport and Salisbury Beach. The Massholes call it the North Shore,\u201d he explained. \u201cSome of my earliest memories of summer are of small carnivals and people walking the beachside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cena also shared that he never wore sunscreen as a child \u2013 with his mother raising five boys, it was never a main priority. Back in 1977, there was also not as much emphasis on the importance of sun protection.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\">In his early twenties, the WWE star moved from New England to Florida, where he \u2018fell in love with the sun,\u2019 but admits he \u2018neglected\u2019 his skin.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\">\u201cI was stubborn. I didn\u2019t want to have a routine, and I also thought the problem would never reach me. Credit: Neutrogena<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 47-year-old says he is \u2018very lucky\u2019 to have a great dermatologist; he adds that the stats for skin cancer are \u2018overwhelming.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., an estimated 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and\u00a0approximately 9,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every day, as per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/skin-cancer-information\/skin-cancer-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Skin Care Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_28-0\">The A-lister adds: \u201cI think the best way to hammer home a point is human-to-human connection. And I, as a human, can tell you: Man, that phone call\u2019s not what you want to get because it is unpredictable, and you don\u2019t know how bad it\u2019s going to be.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_30-0\">\u201cA year later, I went back and had another spot removed close to my right shoulder. It shows up like a white polka dot on the side of my chest and on my shoulder.
