While the teams will have access to the private medical data, Bhattacharya said they will not be able to download it and promised \u2018state of the art protections\u2019 around confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Along with the data study, the NIH will launch a new disease registry to track Americans with autism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Bhattacharya said this window into \u2018real-time health monitoring\u2019 aimed to provide \u2018a robust and secure computational data platform for chronic disease and autism research\u2019, but the idea has been hit with backlash from advocates for people with autism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">One\u00a0Twitter\u00a0user, who said she is a \u2018mother of a child with autism\u2019, made clear she did not \u2018approve\u2019 of the NIH gathering medical records for the study.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Describing the idea as \u2018terrifying\u2019, she wrote: \u201cAs a mother of a child with autism I don\u2019t approve this. My son\u2019s medical records should stay private. We need more funding for programs that benefit our children not \u201cstudies\u201d that don\u2019t help them.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Another user wrote: \u201cI do not consent to this.
