A lip reader has revealed what Volodymyr\u00a0Zelensky<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Donald Trump<\/span>\u00a0said to each other at the Pope\u2019s funeral in what was their first meeting since their Oval Office showdown.<\/p>\n

The US and Ukrainian leaders spoke for around 15 minutes inside St Peter\u2019s Basilica, Vatican City, in a meeting which Zelensky described as having the potential to be \u2018historic\u2019.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0White House<\/span>\u00a0also hailed the meeting as \u2018very productive\u2019 as world leaders scramble to try and find a way to end the war in\u00a0Ukraine<\/span>\u00a0which has been raging for more than three years.<\/p>\n

Footage from the meeting shows Trump, in a blue suit, and Zelensky, in a black top and trousers, locked in an intense conversation while sitting opposite each other \u2013 both intensely leaning forward on the edge of their chairs.<\/p>\n

Later, the two world leaders were joined by Sir\u00a0Keir Starmer<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Emmanuel Macron<\/span>, who warmly embraced Zelensky and placed his hand on the Ukrainian president\u2019s shoulder.<\/p>\n

During the hastily organised bilateral meeting on the sidelines of\u00a0Pope Francis<\/span>\u2018s funeral, Trump is said to have offered Zelensky \u2018reassurance\u2019, according to a lip reader.<\/p>\n

Although there is only a brief clip of the meeting, forensic lip reader Nicola Hickling has revealed Zelensky told Trump: \u2018I would like you to do that but not this way.\u2019<\/p>\n

Trump is then said to have replied: \u2018It\u2019s a very interesting strategy, you have reassurance.\u2019<\/p>\n

Analysing the significant meeting, Ms Hickling also suggested there was a frosty exchange between Trump and Macron when the French president arrived while the two chairs for the US and Ukrainian presidents were being set up.<\/p>\n

Macron can be seen warmly locking hands with Zelensky before Trump pulls the French president towards him.<\/p>\n

According to Ms Hickling, Trump told Macron, \u2018Slow down, let me bring\u2026\u2019 before they are removed from the camera shot.<\/p>\n

Trump then warns the French president: \u2018You are not in the right here, I need you to do me a favour, you should not be here.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ms Hickling pointed out how Zelensky nods in agreement when Trump says this to Macron, while the vicar on the edge of the huddle appears to \u2018uncomfortably\u2019 turn away.<\/p>\n

It came amid Trump and Zelensky\u2019s first face-to-face meeting since the pair clashed at the White House in February, when the US president told his Ukrainian counterpart \u2018you don\u2019t have the cards\u2019.<\/p>\n

Trump repeated the same message earlier this week, having previously blamed Ukraine for starting the war and accusing Zelensky of obstructing peace negotiations.<\/p>\n

However, the White House insisted the latest meeting was \u2018very productive\u2019, while Zelensky described it as \u2018very symbolic\u2019 and one which could prove to be significant \u2018if we can achieve joint results\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
