ad_outer_main_first\">\n<div class=\"ad_outer\">\nCherri-Ann Austin-Saddington, 29, became completely infatuated with Bradley Trengrove, a convicted sex offender, after he was transferred to HMP The Verne in Portland, Dorset.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of six months, the two carried on a secret affair inside the prison, often meeting in workshop areas to have sex while trying to avoid detection.<\/p>\n<p>Austin-Saddington even became pregnant during their relationship, though she later lost the baby.<\/p>\n<p>While the affair was ongoing, she smuggled a mobile phone into the Category C prison so she and Trengrove could keep in contact.<\/p>\n<p>In her own phone, she saved his contact under the name\u00a0<em>&#8220;husband to be&#8217;, a court heard.\u00a0&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Even after Trengrove was transferred to a different prison, she continued visiting him\u2014this time using a false name.<\/p>\n<p>So deep was her obsession that she agreed to go through with an unusual plan to try and get pregnant again.<\/p>\n<p>On one of her visits, she brought in an empty Calpol syringe hidden in her bra so she could\u00a0<em>&#8220;artificially inseminate&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0using sperm he had placed in cling film and passed to her.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603469.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603470.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603471.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nAustin-Saddington, who is from Weymouth, received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to misconduct in public office.<\/p>\n<p>Her sentence was suspended due to a serious injury she suffered after the events in question, which has left her in a wheelchair.<\/p>\n<p>Trengrove, from Camborne in Cornwall, had already been serving a 13-year sentence for rape and sexual activity with a child dating back to 2013 and 2014.<\/p>\n<p>He was given an extra two years and three months on top of his original sentence for his role in the relationship.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603472.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\nThe court at Bournemouth heard that Austin-Saddington started working at HMP The Verne in July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>She was given a written warning in 2020 over concerns about how she was interacting with inmates and how professional she was.<\/p>\n<p>Her probationary period was also extended due to suspicions she was getting too close to two other prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, Trengrove was transferred to The Verne\u2014where disgraced pop star Gary Glitter had also been held.<\/p>\n<p>By around August that year, he and Austin-Saddington began a romantic and physical relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Trengrove later told police they had sex between 30 and 40 times inside one of the prison workshops.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Robert Bryan read aloud some of Austin-Saddington\u2019s messages to Trengrove, in which she referred to him as\u00a0<em>&#8220;the one&#8221;<\/em>, told him she\u2019d love him\u00a0<em>&#8220;til my last breath&#8221;<\/em>, and described him as her\u00a0<em>&#8220;reason for living&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603473.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\nMr. Bryan explained more about how their affair played out:\u00a0<em>&#8220;He said things moved on from being friendly in August-September 2022.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I did maintenance work around the prison, there were lots of workshops, we would meet down at the workshops where less people were around.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603474.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<em>&#8220;It got to the point she was coming in for work on days off and we would work together for three or four hours at a time. He said they had unprotected sex 30-40 times.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;She told him in November she was pregnant with his baby. He encouraged her to be less risky but she said that would mean less opportunity to meet.\u00a0<\/em><em>She lost the baby at about eight weeks.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In March 2023, Trengrove was transferred to HMP Channings Wood in Devon.<\/p>\n<p>While he was there, Austin-Saddington sent him intimate photos. However, prison staff intercepted the images before they reached him.<\/p>\n<p>On May 26, she went to visit him using a false identity. During a routine search, officers noticed she wasn\u2019t wearing any underwear and found the syringe in her bra. She was immediately arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Her lawyer, Emily Cook, argued in court that Austin-Saddington should not be sent to prison due to her serious health condition.<\/p>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">Cook explained:\u00a0<em>&#8220;She had this incredibly devastating physical event that has occurred since her offending.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In February 2024, her then partner awoke to find her on the floor. She doesn&#8217;t know how but something was going on with her spine.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603475.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\"><em>&#8220;She is wheelchair-dependent. She has had her liberty curtailed for many months, not by the court but by her ill health.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;You can see from the messaging, they formed a very intense and infatuated relationship. She takes full responsibility for what she did.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;She is very ashamed and upset. You are not sentencing the woman who committed these offences, she&#8217;s a very different woman now.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603476.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">Nick Robinson, representing Trengrove, said their connection was based on\u00a0<em>&#8220;genuine infatuation&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0and that he wasn\u2019t the one influencing or corrupting her.<\/p>\n<p>He explained further:\u00a0<em>&#8220;Everything was driven towards having conversation with someone he genuinely cared about.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Before this he was a good prisoner, working hard towards the earliest possible release. He knew what he was doing, his heart ruled his head.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603477.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">Judge Jonathan Fuller KC addressed Austin-Saddington directly, saying:\u00a0<em>&#8220;The prison service expects the highest standards from their employees.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Failure to apply those standards can have an enormous and lasting impact on the prisons, the care of inmates, the integrity which is to be maintained and, of course, public confidence.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\"><em>&#8220;Your betrayal of that trust represents a serious and prolonged misconduct by someone in public office.\u00a0<\/em><em>I am mindful of your current physical state and pending rehabilitation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For that reason only I reduce the sentence in order to suspend it. Had it not been for the accident that befell Miss Austin-Saddington the sentence would have been an immediate sentence of imprisonment.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">He continued:\u00a0<em>&#8220;The intensity of their feelings towards each other, as shown in the messages, could perhaps be described as mutual obsession with each other.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The expressed intention was that they should spend the rest of their lives together. This was a relationship of equal halves, both making the wrong decision.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Austin-Saddington pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office, as well as to bringing a mobile phone into the prison facility.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/15\/108009-thatviralfeed.com-large-603478.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">She received a two-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with 25 days of rehabilitation activity requirements.<\/p>\n<p>As for Trengrove, he admitted to helping and encouraging her actions.<\/p>\n<p>He also confessed to having a phone in prison and using it for\u00a0<em>&#8220;unauthorised transmission of images or sound.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">After the hearing, Detective Inspector Alastair Quinn of the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit stated:\u00a0<em>&#8220;We are committed to working with our region&#8217;s prisons to root out corruption and will be looking to take similar action against other prisoners who seek to corrupt prison staff.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Clearly, by entering into a relationship with a prisoner, Austin-Saddington was herself also committing a serious offence and undermining the already challenging work her former colleagues do.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A female prison officer who got involved with an &#8220;exceptionally dangerous&#8221; rapist and tried to get pregnant while having sex with him on the job\u2014up to 40 times\u2014has avoided jail time.
