His voice was cold as he said, \u201cI\u2019m giving you until tomorrow to leave this house, or we\u2019re taking it to court.\u201d Stunned, I asked, \u201cYou\u2019re suing me for my house?\u201d He replied sharply, \u201cIt belongs to me now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer, however, seemed familiar. When Brian stepped away, the lawyer, James, revealed he was my high school sweetheart. With a small smile, he whispered, \u201cDon\u2019t worry, I\u2019ve got your back.\u201d We went inside, and James assured me we had a plan.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, James called Brian and explained the gravity of his actions. \u201cWhat you did after your father\u2019s death\u2014taking his car, watches, and other belongings\u2014is a serious offense\u2026 that\u2019s theft, Brian.\u201d Brian\u2019s confidence quickly faded as he realized the legal trouble he could face if he continued the lawsuit. \u201cAre you serious?\u201d he asked, voice cracking.<\/p>\n<p>James stood firm. \u201cYes, and if you push this further, we\u2019ll bring it all to light.\u201d Defeated, Brian muttered, \u201cFine. I\u2019ll drop it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the truth on our side, Brian backed down.
