He became politically active in 2010 when he supported the DREAM Act, legislation aimed at creating a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children.<\/p>\n<p>Although the bill narrowly failed in the Senate by five votes, de la Vega, despite his undocumented status, served as a \u201cspecial assistant\u201d to former Harlem Assemblymember Robert J. Rodriguez and interned for Representative Carolyn Maloney (D), the report noted.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, de la Vega was appointed as the Deputy Communications Director by Ocasio-Cortez. This occurred shortly after reports surfaced indicating that the New York Democrat was conducting seminars to educate undocumented immigrants on how to evade ICE enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent to Homan\u2019s email to the DOJ, AOC disclosed that the Trump administration had not yet responded to her inquiries regarding whether she is under federal investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve asked them, but they haven\u2019t replied to me,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez informed Fox News early last month. \u201cHowever, I was once again fully exercising the First Amendment to inform individuals of their constitutional rights. They make numerous claims, yet I have submitted a formal letter, and they refuse to respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When questioned about the possible repercussions, she was candid. She asserted that detaining an elected official \u201cwithout any legitimate grounds\u201d would signify a \u201csignificant shift and escalation in what this administration is prepared to do to
