to the highest level possible, such is the danger posed of\u00a0illness\u00a0and even death from eating\u00a0contaminated\u00a0blueberries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According\u00a0to\u00a0the Independent, Alma Pak International LLC had issued the recall for 400 boxes of blueberries, weighing 30 pounds each, which were shipped to one customer in\u00a0North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">It has not been revealed if the customer was a store,\u00a0restaurant, or other facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">It recalled the organic blueberries on June 9 after they tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mantis-ui-widget-container\" class=\"mantis-recommender default\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According to the FDA, the bacteria was identified during routine testing, and they have since upgraded the June 9 warning to a Class I, the highest level of risk.<\/p>\n<div Class I recall as &#8216;a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The affected product can be identified by the Lot numbers: 13325 G1060 \/ 13325 G 1096.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The CDC describes listeria is a &#8216;bacteria that can contaminate many foods&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">If you were to eat something contaminated with the bacteria, it could &#8217;cause an invasive illness and intestinal illness&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h2>Which foods can cause listeriosis?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According to the NHS in the UK, the main illness caused by listeria bacteria is listeriosis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">They say the highest risk products include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list_list__njBdr\">\n<li>cold, cooked sliced meats and cured meats<\/li>\n<li>smoked and cured fish \u2013 including in sushi<\/li>\n<li>cooked shellfish<\/li>\n<li>soft mould-ripened cheeses (such as camembert and brie) and blue-veined cheeses<\/li>\n<li>p\u00e2t\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>pre-prepared sandwiches and salads<\/li>\n<li>pre-cut fruit (such as pre-packed melon slices)<\/li>\n<li>unpasteurised milk<\/li>\n<li>dairy products made from unpasteurised milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According to the CDC, infections caused by listeria bacteria rank as the third leading cause of death caused by food in the United class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According to the NHS, in most people, listeriosis has no symptoms or only causes mild symptoms for a few days, such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list_list__njBdr\">\n<li>a high temperature<\/li>\n<li>aches and pains<\/li>\n<li>chills<\/li>\n<li>feeling or being sick<\/li>\n<li>diarrhea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Most people recover quickly from the illness without any major repercussions, but pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems may suffer worse.<\/p>\n<h2>How common is illness or death from foodborne bacteria?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Last year alone, there were around 300 recalls issued, which were believed to have caused nearly 1,400 illnesses, according to a Public Interest Research Group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Out of the 1,400 illnesses, some 487 were hospitalized and tragically, 19 people died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The total of hospitalizations and deaths from foodborne illnesses has double since 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Just last month, FreshRealm\u2019s chicken fettuccine alfredo products were recalled after officials\u00a0said\u00a0a listeria outbreak had caused three deaths, one fetal loss, while 17 people fell ill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The US Department of Agriculture\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service said they may be &#8216;adulterated&#8217; with the outbreak strain of listeria monocytogenes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Back in 2022, a severe outbreak of listeria was linked to deli meats and
