He keeps a cooler near his driveway stocked with drinks to help people beat the heat.<\/p>\n<p>Even though many would call this a generous and thoughtful act, it has recently landed Martin in trouble with his homeowners association, better known as the HOA. According to KPHO, what started as kindness has now led to a series of fines and a push by Martin to make big changes to the board itself.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/16\/108438-thatviralfeed.com-large-605927.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">Martin began giving out water bottles in 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. He and his wife simply wanted to do something nice for their community. Whether it was delivery drivers working long shifts, dog walkers, kids riding bikes, or couples enjoying an evening stroll, they wanted to offer a refreshing break, especially during Arizona\u2019s scorching hot summers.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s for anyone out in the heat.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Martin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbtx.com\/2024\/08\/29\/hoa-fines-homeowners-providing-free-water-neighbors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0KPHO.\u00a0<em>&#8220;What better way to be a good neighbor than by offering cold water?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But what was meant as a kind gesture soon drew criticism from the HOA and its management group, FirstService Residential. Last year, Martin received a $50 fine just for having the cooler visible from the street. Especially in July, on the hottest days of the year.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The HOA, however, insists that the issue isn\u2019t about handing out water. According to them, it\u2019s more about how the water is being distributed. He decided it was time for a change in leadership and started an effort to recall part of the HOA board.<\/p>\n<p>To make that happen, he began collecting signatures from neighbors. His goal was to remove three of the board\u2019s members. On July 10, a special meeting was held and about two dozen people showed up. According to the Post, 190 out of 210 ballots cast voted in favor of removing those board members\u2014enough to meet the supermajority requirement.<\/p>\n<p>But the HOA board quickly pushed back, claiming that the vote didn\u2019t meet all the legal requirements.
