Volcanoes like Axial Seamount may actually be\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2600\" data-end=\"2637\">foundations of life in our oceans<\/strong>,\u201d she noted. The chemical-laden plumes released during eruptions create nutrient-rich conditions that support some of the most\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2765\" data-end=\"2799\">diverse and extreme ecosystems<\/strong>\u00a0on the planet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2816\" data-end=\"3212\">Importantly, scientists stress that the upcoming eruption\u2014should it occur\u2014<strong data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"2930\">poses no threat to human populations<\/strong>.
