They say the government put their lives at risk without ever telling them, simply by having them work at the site.<\/p>\n<p>One of them is David Crete, a former Air Force Sergeant who was stationed at the Nevada Test and Training Range from 1983 to 1987. Today, he runs a nonprofit group called The Invisible Enemy, which is all about pushing for government transparency.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/military\/area-51-veterans-justice-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0by NewsNation, Crete\u2019s organization is working hard to get lawmakers to pass new rules that would help veterans and their families. They want access to medical care and financial support for those who may have been exposed to toxic materials while working on the range.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/22\/108506-thatviralfeed.com-large-606150.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"atd_pages\">\n<article class=\"atd\">Crete is one of many former employees who say they\u2019ve suffered serious health issues because of their time at the base. He claims that more than 490 people have died from devastating illnesses that began after their work at the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, while testifying before the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Crete said that whatever happened to him during those years didn\u2019t just affect his health\u2014it actually changed his DNA for good.<\/p>\n<p>He said:\u00a0<em>&#8220;My wife had three miscarriages. One of the guys that I worked with, his wife had seven. I&#8217;m not saying it&#8217;s mine, but I brought it home. It was my DNA that was permanently altered from low-dose, long-term, ionizing radiation exposure.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Crete is not alone. Dozens of other veterans have shared similar stories. Many of them believe they were exposed to radiation during their time at the site, and that this exposure led to the serious illnesses they&#8217;re dealing with today.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Crete invited a group of his fellow Air Force veterans to a backyard barbecue at his home in Las Vegas. That casual get-together quickly turned into a heavy conversation about health problems they all seemed to have in common.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.tbdcdn.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/22\/108506-thatviralfeed.com-large-606151.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\nOne of those veterans, Randy Groves, revealed that he had a lump growing on his back. This led Crete to open up about his own experience with a massive tumor\u2014roughly the size of a grapefruit\u2014that he had removed from the same area.<\/p>\n<p>Crete shared that the tumor wasn\u2019t a one-off. In fact, he has more than 20 lipomas all over his body. And shockingly, eight of the people gathered at that barbecue said they\u2019d also been diagnosed with tumors.<\/p>\n<p>According to Crete, the U.S. Department of Defense isn\u2019t recognizing their service at Area 51. Because of how their records are handled\u2014labeled as &#8216;Data Masked&#8217;\u2014these veterans are being blocked from accessing crucial support through Veterans Affairs.
