The investigation started on July 21.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\"><\/div>\n<p>According to investigations, Loraine, who was<strong>\u00a0\u201centirely dependent\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0on her mother and had Down syndrome and learning disabilities, had survived until February 28.<\/p>\n<p>On February 2, Alphonsine\u2019s call was answered, and before the connection ended, the mother was able to provide her address and request that an ambulance be sent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\"><\/div>\n<p>But the call had been mistakenly classified as an\u00a0<strong>\u201cabandoned call.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Detective Cook said,\u00a0<strong>\u201cLoraine had been left in the premises alone and had been alive until her device had lost charge.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-11\"><\/div>\n<p>According to the authorities, Lorraine passed away in April before turning eighteen.<\/p>\n<p>Alphonsine herself experienced health problems, including sickle cell anaemia. Her youngest daughter\u2019s cause of death is still<strong>\u00a0\u201cunascertained,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0however she passed away from\u00a0<strong>\u201cpneumonia of uncertain cause.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-13\"><\/div>\n<p>Dr. Stuart Hamilton, the pathologist, was questioned throughout the hearing about whether hunger or dehydration could have contributed to the child\u2019s death.
