Who is to blame for this madness can certainly be debated, but it\u2019s important to recognize that the demand from tourists perpetuates this cycle of cruelty.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, when Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand became aware of Somboon\u2019s situation, they knew they had to do anything in their power to save her.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-146658 lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/03\/12103421\/stack.jpeg?resize=731%2C960&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"731\" height=\"960\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/03\/12103421\/stack.jpeg?resize=731%2C960&amp;ssl=1\" data-eio-rwidth=\"731\" data-eio-rheight=\"960\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for Grandma to be cared for well and allowed to rest,\u201d the rescue\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SaveElephantFoundation\/posts\/pfbid02Bc4Zv74gvmybUgL2injC6bnFUqmb5jDXu5MQ8GeEYvqxDdYbXecZKh8jTbbCbRxNl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shared on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0i January and added: \u201cWe\u2019re on a rescue mission to protect Somboon and transport her to her final true home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And so, in January, the organization succeeded in rescuing the neglected elephant, who is now 87 years old.<\/p>\n<p>She had worked tirelessly her entire life \u2013 but now, she would find rest, free from her shackles. Somboon was transported to the Elephant Nature Park sanctuary, but her condition was far from okay. The elephant was emaciated, missing a tooth, had hazy eyes and she was severely dehydrated. Exhausted from her journey and a lifetime of hardship, she promptly sought the sand pile prepared for her, sleeping soundly amidst the bustling activities around her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having spent her entire life on her feet, it wasn\u2019t surprising that the first thing Somboon wanted to do was lay down and rest. But eventually, she managed it! The rescue team was understandably unsure of how well Somboon would adjust to her new environment, but it has exceeded expectations.
