After calling out to the boy they eventually realized that he was in the attic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked like a kid out of a concentration camp, skin and bones,\u201d Klingele\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insideedition.com\/19742-abused-and-abandoned-boy-saved-from-attic-by-officers-6-years-ago-reunites-with-his\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">recollected<\/a>\u00a0when he first saw Govi. \u201cWe were told he was going to be 7 and size-wise he looked 3 maybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Govi weighed just\u00a017 pounds and couldn\u2019t walk, barely talked, and was\u00a0covered in excrement.<\/p>\n<p>Starved of nutrients, the boy had lost hair on his head, his bones were brittle and bowed from rickets, and the fatty tissue on his bottom had wasted away. Medical staff said Govi wouldn\u2019t have lived much longer if he hadn\u2019t been rescued that night, as reported by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/local\/article37164186.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kansas City Star.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was no blanket, no toys, the boy had just been left up there, authorities believed his mother put him up there to hide him away.<\/p>\n<p>Perez is currently serving an eight-year prison term for attempted murder over the treatment of her child.<\/p>\n<p>Six years later the officers who found Govi that day were reunited with him and couldn\u2019t believe the transformation.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-kid-is-magical\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018The kid is magical\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Govi and his two sisters were taken in and adopted by their great aunt and uncle, Stacy and Joe Eastwood. Govi\u2019s recovery has taken a while; at first he would only sleep on the floor and was worrying he was going to get hit every time someone wanted to high five him, but now he feels safe and loved by his new family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kid is magical. Everybody he comes in contact with, he just brings out a better person in them,\u201d Eastwood said.<\/p>\n<p>The officers who saved him certainly noticed the positive change in the 12 year old who visited him at the Sherriff\u2019s Department in 2016 where he was made honorary deputy and awarded a plaque.<\/p>\n<p>Govi shook the hands of the officers and thanked them for rescuing him that day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat boy is the hero. Seeing how big his heart is and his smile is\u2026 It\u2019s really good to see him,\u201d Klingele\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insideedition.com\/19742-abused-and-abandoned-boy-saved-from-attic-by-officers-6-years-ago-reunites-with-his\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to his great aunt Govi slept with his special plaque that night.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Boy rescued from attic now an honorary deputy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z6WAvIXYYGc?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s beyond belief that a parent could treat their child this way.
