But we will navigate this \u2013 together,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.annunciationmsp.org\/news-events\/important-message-principal-deboer-and-father-zehren-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Parish of the Annunciation<\/a>\u00a0shared in a statement.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-sophia-and-her-brother\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sophia and her brother<\/h2>\n<p>Among the most critically injured was Sophia Forchas, 12, a seventh-grade student at the school, who was struck by gunfire and required immediate emergency surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Her little brother Anthony was also at the school during the shooting, but was \u201cphysically unharmed,\u201d according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-sophia-and-the-forchas-family-recover?attribution_id=sl:38b9f5c2-76c7-4af4-8f24-89c9eaa519f3&amp;lang=en_US&amp;ts=1756492176&amp;utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&amp;utm_content=amp13_t1-amp17_te&amp;utm_medium=customer&amp;utm_source=copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">GoFundMe<\/a>\u00a0campaign that\u2019s raised $683,576 to support the family.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-2103691481\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\">\n<div id=\"ad-modul_intext_175279_1\" class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"COGb4su2v48DFXiK_QcdI3c7qw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/125128856\/en_newsner_com\/modul_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-0da8f20d4f254e6ec4cca29e16adeb6d\" class=\"newsner-0da8f20d4f254e6ec4cca29e16adeb6d newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>But \u201cthe trauma of witnessing such a terrifying event \u2013 and knowing his sister was critically injured \u2013 is something no child should ever experience,\u201d the fundraiser explains.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-mom-learns-daughter-critically-injured\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mom learns daughter critically injured<\/h2>\n<p>Adding to the heartbreak, Sophia \u2013 described as \u201ca bright, kind, and full of life young girl\u201d\u2013 was transported to the hospital\u2019s intensive care unit, where her own mother, a pediatric critical care nurse was working at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The GoFundMe explains that the mother had \u201carrived at work to help during the tragedy, before knowing it was her children\u2019s school that was attacked, and that her daughter was critically injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-still-in-critical-condition\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Still in critical condition<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cSophia\u2019s mother was called into work, and only to find out when she arrived that her daughter was one of the victims, unfortunately,\u201d Father Timothy Sas of St. Mary\u2019s Greek Orthodox Church told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmichelle.rollins.39%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0FWm63aTvmPZdnoTW5qNSWsqyYUQvaY7PFYk8kh6xEqgWTMLTZ51NnAgsMj5GBriRl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"773\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo priest is ever prepared enough to offer consolation for a moment like this,\u201d said Sas, the family\u2019s longtime parish priest. Sas later shared in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/nativityofchrist\/posts\/message-from-rev-father-timothy-sas-proistamenossaint-mary-greek-orthodox-church\/1207326758091835\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0statement that he spent significant time at the hospital with Sophia\u2019s family while she was in surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently, Sophia has passed through the difficult and long surgery but remains in a critical situation,\u201d he wrote, while the GoFundMe explained that \u201cher medical team is doing everything they can to stabilize her. Her road ahead will be long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult \u2013 but she is strong, and she is not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sophia remains in critical care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The mass shooting at Annunciation Church has reignited conversations around gun violence, school safety, and mental health across Minneapolis and beyond.
