As his mother once put it:\u00a0<em>\u201cMusic was the only thing he was any good at at school.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0That passion would later lead him to join forces with friend Roger Hodgson in 1969, forming what would become one of the most influential rock bands of the era \u2014 Supertramp.<\/p>\n<p>Though they came from very different worlds \u2014 Davies from a working-class background and Hodgson from private schooling \u2014 the two clicked instantly when Hodgson auditioned. The album shot to number one on the Billboard chart and produced classics like \u201cThe Logical Song,\u201d \u201cGoodbye Stranger,\u201d \u201cTake the Long Way Home,\u201d and the title track. It went on to earn Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-359372577\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\">\n<div id=\"ad-modul_intext_175579_1\" class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"CP_tzsacyY8DFWfsEQgdWB04tw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/125128856\/en_newsner_com\/modul_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-648c906785b2668b178e69fa2f33da63\" class=\"newsner-648c906785b2668b178e69fa2f33da63 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>But as time went on, Davies and Hodgson grew apart. Hodgson left the band in 1983, and as the group\u2019s biography put it: \u201cHodgson and Davies were drifting further apart \u2014 not in hostility, but in philosophy. Hodgson built a home in the Northern California mountains, where he raised his family and pursued spiritual interests. Davies stayed in Los Angeles, more rooted in urban grit.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-a-rare-interview\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A rare interview<\/h2>\n<p>Davies carried on, leading Supertramp through the mid-1980s and later reviving the band in the \u201990s with new members. His soulful vocals and unmistakable touch on the Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the band\u2019s sound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For fans across generations, his music remains a gift.
