The bill is a direct response to the case of Decarlos Brown Jr., a repeat offender who was reportedly released by more than a dozen judges before allegedly committing Zarutska\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"625\" data-end=\"859\">\u201cThose 12+ judges that released Decarlos Brown Jr. should have their day in court too,\u201d Fine said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to release criminals when you\u2019re protected by an armed bailiff at all times. The rest of us aren\u2019t so lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"1251\">The proposed legislation would establish mechanisms to investigate and potentially sanction judges who release violent offenders who later reoffend. Supporters argue it introduces necessary accountability into a judicial system they believe is becoming increasingly lenient toward repeat criminals.
