In the struggle, he was pulled under by the current. Family friend Charles Johnson II, known as \u201cUncle Chuck,\u201d dove in to rescue him but was also dragged under.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1820163\" data-uid=\"0d4fd\">\n<div id=\"mgw1820163_0d4fd\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"mgbox card-media\" data-template-type=\"container\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\">\n<p>Bystanders managed to pull both Bryce and Johnson from the water, and they were airlifted to the hospital. Despite efforts, both were pronounced dead, leaving family and community devastated.<\/p>\n<p>At Maynard Jackson High School, students honored Bryce with a balloon release. His mother, Crystal Brooks, said her son had stepped into manhood by saving others, expressing pride even through immense grief.<\/p>\n<p>Bryce was remembered as an honor roll student, music lover, and member of his school\u2019s fashion club. He also cared deeply for his younger brother. His family had previously appeared on Netflix\u2019s\u00a0<em>Instant Dream Home<\/em>, where their home was renovated in secret.<\/p>\n<p>Support poured in, with \u201cGet Your Teach On\u201d launching a fundraiser that raised over $78,000. Organizers praised Bryce\u2019s heroism, saying his actions helped save multiple lives.<\/p>\n<p>In his memory, the family founded the Bryce Brooks Foundation, dedicated to water safety and drowning prevention.
