The disease can cause changes in personality, communication, and behavior, gradually altering relationships in profound ways.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0Alzheimer\u2019s Association, there is currently no cure for FTD, which typically begins to present itself in people who are 45 to 65 years old.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-disease-always-wins\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Disease always wins\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Speaking with Oprah Winfrey in her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=RMdp8Hh5Bks&amp;t=3823s&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawMw4p5leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFiWEYwZGhGZ3ZCWjZicElVAR41fkhQWjo1eixj9PUydS2zzRZxG4Hzva6QnjtKvc8dJd01pLQxk8Gsuy-_RA_aem_WFf1FnMu1QGOIOV-3ZjhCw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">podcast<\/a>, Heming Willis, 49, explained that the diagnosis clarified years of confusion and detachment from the Golden Globe winning actor. \u201cFTD is just an unkind, cruel disease. Your brain is degenerating, it\u2019s dying\u2026and to have to witness it is traumatic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining that her \u201cgrief is very much there all the time,\u201d the mother of two added, \u201cThe disease progresses where you will no longer be able to care for yourself. I just didn\u2019t understand what was happening. I didn\u2019t understand the conversations that we were having. We just weren\u2019t aligned and I didn\u2019t know why,\u201d the former model told Winfrey.<\/p>\n<p>Unaware of what was truly happening \u2013 early onset dementia \u2013 Heming Willis began questioning the future of their marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI 100% thought about divorce. I just didn\u2019t understand how our relationship\u2026we were so connected.
