Said, who once had ties to Omar\u2019s political campaigns, is the 52nd defendant convicted in the Feeding Our Future scandal \u2014 the largest pandemic-era fraud uncovered in Minnesota to date.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors: \u201cFraud on a staggering scale\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conviction of the 52nd defendant in the Feeding Our Future case is yet another reminder of the vast reach of this fraud and the scale of the crisis we face in Minnesota,\u201d said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. From where I sit, the scale of the fraud in Minnesota is staggering, and every rock we turn over reveals more.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">\n<div id=\"usaunfiltered24.com_responsive_2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>How the Scheme Worked<\/p>\n<p>According to court filings, Said exploited the Federal Child Nutrition Program between December 2020 and January 2022, funneling money through his nonprofit, Advance Youth Athletic Development.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-11\">\n<div id=\"usaunfiltered24.com_responsive_3\" data-google-query-id=\"CM7B68yD8I8DFcuIgwcdYJY5Mg\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/23293390090\/usaunfiltered24.com\/usaunfiltered24.com_responsive_3_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Said falsely claimed the group was serving thousands of meals a day to low-income children.<\/li>\n<li>The nonprofit was incorporated in February 2021, with its address registered to a residential apartment at the Central Avenue Lofts in Minneapolis.<\/li>\n<li>Beginning in March 2021, he submitted records claiming to have served 5,000 meals daily.<\/li>\n<li>Between March and December, he reported more than 1 million meals served \u2014 though in reality, only a fraction were ever provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prosecutors say Said fabricated meal counts, rosters, and invoices to secure reimbursement funds.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div id=\"usaunfiltered24.com_responsive_3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In total, the scheme pulled in about $2.9 million in federal money.<\/p>\n<p>Where the Money Went<\/p>\n<p>Investigators say Said used a portion of the funds for legitimate food purchases but diverted the bulk of the money to personal enrichment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Between August and December 2021, more than $2.1 million was transferred to a catering business, supposedly for meal preparation.<\/li>\n<li>Funds were also laundered through a network of shell nonprofits and LLCs.<\/li>\n<li>Prosecutors allege the money was spent on real estate, vehicles, and luxury items, far removed from the program\u2019s intended purpose of feeding children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Political and Personal Background<\/p>\n<p>Said is not new to politics. He previously ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2018. His guilty plea now adds another layer of controversy to Rep. Ilhan Omar\u2019s political orbit, where critics have long accused her campaigns of fostering questionable alliances.<\/p>\n<p>While Omar has not been implicated in the fraud scheme, prosecutors described Said as an \u201cenforcer\u201d for her campaign in past elections.
