But staff said they were immediately alarmed by her condition, describing her as \u201cemaciated,\u201d with sunken eyes and her collarbone protruding sharply.<\/p>\n<p>According to resort workers, Karolina was so weak on arrival that a night clerk carried her to her room. Staff offered\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/medical\/\">medical<\/a>\u00a0assistance several times, but she repeatedly declined, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-15147595\/How-Leeds-University-student-suffered-anorexia-tragically-starved-death-hotel-room-Bali-adopting-raw-vegan-fruitarian-diet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n<p>Over the following days, hotel staff continued to check on her as they delivered fruit to her room, a diet that is not uncommon at wellness retreats.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-a30a7f543504e5c504e85dc41e6c00e5\" class=\"newsner-a30a7f543504e5c504e85dc41e6c00e5 newsner-incide_content_once\">\n<div id=\"newsner-997580025\" class=\"newsner-incide_content_once\">\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails\" class=\"trc_related_container tbl-trecs-container trc_spotlight_widget\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But as her health visibly deteriorated, concerns grew. At one point, staff reported she needed help turning over in bed.<\/p>\n<p>Their fears intensified when a friend called the resort, worried they had not heard from her. When staff entered her villa to check, they found Karolina unresponsive on the floor. At the time of her death, she reportedly weighed just three-and-a-half stone (49lbs).<\/p>\n<p>Experts have stressed the dangers of such a restrictive regimen. Dietitian Melainie Rogers told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/article\/karolina-krzyzak-raw-vegan-bali-death-eating-disorder.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Cut<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019re not getting sufficient protein or fats or omega-3s.
