He managed to drag a \u201cbarely conscious\u201d Miller out of the passenger seat \u2013moments before flames consumed the rest of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/parents-woman-killed-cybertruck-crash-allege-dangerous-door-design-prevented-her-esape\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">KTVU<\/a>, Dixon \u2013 who was operating the vehicle \u2013 was found to have meth and cocaine in his system and a blood alcohol level of 0.195 \u2013 more than twice the legal limit. Autopsy reports revealed that Tsukahara and Nelson each tested positive for alcohol and cocaine.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-unable-to-escape\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unable to escape<\/h2>\n<p>Krysta \u2013 a second-year student at Savannah College of Art and Design \u2013 survived the initial crash with only minor injuries.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-230639503\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\">\n<div id=\"ad-modul_intext_177533_1\" class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"CKesl8ibkpADFZtL9ggdlL8gQA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/125128856\/en_newsner_com\/modul_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-80b1533cd4ff0ce8828062fbf1655964\" class=\"newsner-80b1533cd4ff0ce8828062fbf1655964 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her parents, Krysta was unable to escape the locked car and died from smoke inhalation and severe burns \u2013 enduring what they describe as \u201cunimaginable pain and emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe attempted to get out of the subject vehicle through efforts of a person who was attempting to extract her through the front passenger window due to the failure of the electrical system of the Tesla Cybertruck. Tesla knows that it\u2019s happened and that it\u2019s going to happen, and they are doing nothing but selling the car with a system that entraps people and doesn\u2019t provide a way of extraction.\u201d Tsukahara\u2019s family attorney, Roger Dreyer, told the San Francisco Chronicle, per the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/05\/us-news\/tesla-cybertruck-door-issue-saw-california-teen-burned-alive-suit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New York Post<\/a>. \u201cThe design of this vehicle failed Krysta. There was no functioning, accessible manual override or emergency release for her to escape. Her death was preventable.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-machine-that-s-not-safe\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Machine that\u2019s not safe\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>In a statement shared with Fox Digital news, Krysta\u2019s father, Carl said of his daughter: \u201cKrysta was a bright, kind, and accomplished young woman with her whole life ahead of her.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-4a040c5d947a1dd6568d7631dff9eb68\" class=\"newsner-4a040c5d947a1dd6568d7631dff9eb68 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had to endure not only the loss of our daughter, but the silence surrounding how this happened and why she couldn\u2019t get out. This company is worth a trillion dollars \u2013 how can you release a machine that\u2019s not safe in so many ways?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the lawsuit filed by Nelson\u2019s parents said: \u201cRear passengers like Jack were left with only a concealed mechanical release that was obscure, nonintuitive and highly unlikely to be located or operated in the smoke and chaos of a post-crash fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both wrongful death lawsuits are seeking punitive damages from Tesla, accusing the company of knowingly selling a vehicle with fatal design flaws.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-impaired-driving\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impaired driving<\/h2>\n<p>As the California Highway Patrol determined that speeding and impaired driving contributed to the crash, the victims\u2019 families say that doesn\u2019t excuse Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [Tesla] will want to blame Mr. Dixon, anybody but themselves. But this vehicle absolutely should not have entombed these individuals and my clients\u2019 daughter. It\u2019s our way of holding the wrongdoer accountable and correcting bad conduct,\u201d Dreyer said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-controversial-cybertruck\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Controversial Cybertruck<\/h2>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Cybertruck was launched in late 2023 with massive media attention. But less than two years in, it\u2019s become one of the most controversial models in the company\u2019s history \u2013plagued by multiple recalls, declining sales, and mounting legal pressure.<\/p>\n<p>As investigations continue and the lawsuits move forward, the spotlight intensifies on Tesla\u2019s design choices \u2013 and whether enough is being done to protect the people driving their high-tech vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you think of this story?
