But Michael still shines. Fox<\/a>\u00a0Foundation, which has raised more than $2 billion so far. E<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1692507525\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-c299c334828823997b693e1158ff8423\" class=\"newsner-c299c334828823997b693e1158ff8423 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\">\n<div id=\"teknolojibura.com_responsive_1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contributions to advancing understanding of the disease.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\"><\/div>\n<p>That same optimism and persistence have long defined Fox\u2019s public life. In a new interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/michael-j-fox-talks-new-book-future-boy-return-to-tv-exclusive-11825341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">People<\/a>, he says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wake up and get the message of what the day is gonna be like, and I try to adjust to it.<\/p>\n<p>I keep getting new challenges physically, and I get through it. I roll around in a wheelchair a lot, and it took some getting used to.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-no-longer-walks-regularly\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">No longer walks regularly<\/h2>\n<p>Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease in 1991, when he was just 29 years old. He has admitted that he popped dopamine pills \u201clike Halloween Smarties (candy)\u201d\u00a0in a bid to hide early symptoms. While on set, he tried to hold props to mask the tremors in his hand.<\/p>\n<p>More than 30 years after his diagnosis, Fox has admitted that he no longer walks regularly because of the risk of serious injury.<\/p>\n<p>Years of performing high-energy stunts on set \u2014 from somersaulting over co-stars to sliding across car hoods \u2014 have taken a lasting physical toll.<\/p>\n<p>He explained to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/life-style\/celebrity\/article\/michael-j-fox-parkinsons-book-5xl9nb9rf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Times<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1264192282\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-dfe5d74974bfe95e4baf62e5212d205d\" class=\"newsner-dfe5d74974bfe95e4baf62e5212d205d newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s [the point] where I break stuff, it\u2019s absolutely incredible the stuff I broke. In a three-year period I broke my elbow, I broke my hand, I got a big infection in my hand and I almost lost my finger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cumulative effects of these injuries have forced him to slow down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take it easy now, I don\u2019t walk that much anymore. Fox in 2025 \/ Jason Kempin\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Yet Fox remains focused on what he can do rather than what he has lost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see other people\u2019s work, and it makes me think that I might be able to find something that\u2019s for me as an actor and as a writer\u2026.And as a parent, husband and friend, I have a lot left to do,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the physical challenges, he continues to channel his energy into family, advocacy, and creative projects.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Back to the Future<\/em>\u00a0star has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/news\/michael-j-fox-opens-up-about-parkinsons-and-declining-health-its-getting-tougher\/\">previously said<\/a>\u00a0that for people with Parkinson\u2019s, falling is a major danger, along with choking on food or developing pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t die from Parkinson\u2019s. You die with Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d Fox explained. \u201cI\u2019ve been thinking about the mortality of it. \u2026 I\u2019m not gonna be 80.
