And not just for people with disabilities, but for plus-size travelers as well.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-2eed96607ff03940c53fb502cf99c429\" class=\"newsner-2eed96607ff03940c53fb502cf99c429 newsner-bluebillywig_instream\">\n<div id=\"newsner-672757649\" class=\"newsner-bluebillywig_instream\">\n<div id=\"\">\n<div id=\"bb-iawr-newsner_english_playout-1601396675571335\" class=\"bb_iawr\">\n<div id=\"bb-wr-newsner_english_playout-1601396675571335\" class=\"bb-media bb_wrapper bb-muted bb-phase-init bb-mode-video bb-pendingplay\" data-flags=\"{}\" data-softembargoremainingtime=\"0\" data-sid=\"0p8mredfDRY7\" data-isready=\"true\" data-autoplaynextremainingtime=\"0\">\n<div class=\"bb-layer bb-context-layer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cForget the difficulty of having to get two seats to fly, accessibility is the number one roadblock for me especially when it comes to long distance travel,\u201d Bo Berry said in her clip, \u201cFlying while fat \u2013 lavatory edition.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t fit in the standard airport lavatory at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And she\u2019s not alone in this view. Many others have echoed similar frustrations, pointing out that modern airplane design prioritizes profits over people \u2013 squeezing more seats into limited space while ignoring the needs of travelers who don\u2019t fit the average mold.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-shrinking-bathrooms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shrinking bathrooms<\/h2>\n<p>In fact, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-airplane-bathrooms-smaller-20180710-story.html?ref=wheelchairtravel.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>\u00a0reports that as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/airplane\/\">airlines<\/a>\u00a0look to boost profits in a climate of rising labor costs and surging fuel prices, they\u2019re turning to a new strategy: shrinking the lavatories to add an extra row of seats.<\/p>\n<p>According to Gary Weissel, managing director of Tronos Aviation Consulting Inc., American Airlines could bring in an extra $400,000 a year for each seat it adds to a plane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven with passenger complaints on these lavs, I don\u2019t see airlines pulling them out,\u201d Weissel told the publication. \u201cThe revenue generated from being able to get an additional row of seats in there is too great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Walton, a pilot with the airline, calls the shrinking bathrooms \u201cthe most miserable experience in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve added 12 more seats, no more lavatories, and you\u2019ve shrunk that lavatory to 75% of what it was before,\u201d Walton said. \u201cI can\u2019t turn around in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-super-close-to-having-an-accident\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Super close to having an accident\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>For Bo, her journey has become a logistical nightmare. She has to turn sideways just to shuffle down the aisle, careful not to bump into seats or passengers.<\/p>\n<p>And she won\u2019t use the bathroom, even if it\u2019s an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t use the bathroom, and my maximum flight time is about six hours. I\u2019ve never had a problem with that before except once I came super close to having an accident on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago,\u201d the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@boberryvip\/video\/7206004603073219883?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">influencer said<\/a>\u00a0in the clip that\u2019s been viewed by 2.7 million people. \u201cThere was some bad weather and my plane was rerouted; they tacked on an extra two hours to the flight and things got a little sketch.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-aisles-aren-t-the-problem\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Aisles aren\u2019t the problem\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Bo Berry\u2019s bravery in sharing her story sparked a wave of mixed reactions online, creating a heated debate on whether personal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/health\/\">size<\/a>\u00a0should dictate airline design \u2013 or if it\u2019s reasonable to expect such sweeping changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re the only one on the plane affected by the narrow aisles, the aisles aren\u2019t the problem,\u201d one user writes on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/awesomestuff365\/posts\/bo-berry-a-plus-sized-tiktok-creator-recently-shared-her-struggle-with-using-air\/1096543849176488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0in response to Bo\u2019s story.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote id=\"v35382354046743436\" class=\"tiktok-embed\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@boberryvip\/video\/7143647799601581358\" data-video-id=\"7143647799601581358\" data-embed-from=\"oembed\"><p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed\/v2\/7143647799601581358?lang=en-US&amp;referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com%2Ftravel%2Fplus-sized-influencer-goes-viral-for-airplane-bathroom-battle%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwY2xjawNfw_RleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBTTWJKQU9ob3d2WUd4QkwzAR76171IwMGWe6GMkmc7PP9Heo99SwH8GhXEysZ_YRT8x0rLXefg5ko53Cstqw_aem_94AuTZ8FKoqONlAeS0ob5Q&amp;embedFrom=oembed\" name=\"__tt_embed__v35382354046743436\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-scripts allow-top-navigation allow-same-origin\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cDiet and exercise seem a bit more logical than redesigning aircrafts,\u201d shares a second, while a third adds, \u201cOh ok \u2013 let\u2019s widen aisles \u2013 it\u2019s easier than going on diet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another writes, \u201cWe are not going to rebuild airplanes because someone refuses to do the work to be at a healthy and reasonable size.
