Though medical options were limited at the time, he was fascinated by the concept of cryonics\u2014the idea of freezing the body to be revived in the future when science could cure fatal diseases.<\/p>\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1850529\" data-uid=\"10b8f\">\n<div id=\"mgw1850529_10b8f\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"mgbox card-media\" data-template-type=\"container\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\">\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\">\n<div id=\"tinyhouse-zone.com_responsive_2\" data-google-query-id=\"CI_1lfSdwpADFR2P_QcdSeQD6A\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/23201474937\/tinyhouse-zone.com\/tinyhouse-zone.com_responsive_2_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bedford learned about the procedure through Dr.\u00a0<strong>Robert Ettinger\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0groundbreaking book\u00a0<em>The Prospect of Immortality.<\/em>\u00a0Ettinger, known as the father of cryonics, founded the\u00a0<strong>Cryonics Institute<\/strong>, which offered body preservation services in hopes of future revival.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by Ettinger\u2019s vision, Bedford arranged to have his body frozen after death. On\u00a0<strong>January 12, 1967<\/strong>, shortly after he passed away, his blood was replaced with protective chemicals, including\u00a0<strong>dimethyl sulfoxide<\/strong>, to minimize tissue damage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">\n<div id=\"tinyhouse-zone.com_responsive_3\" data-google-query-id=\"CMyM9_OdwpADFQms_Qcd84gaLQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/23201474937\/tinyhouse-zone.com\/tinyhouse-zone.com_responsive_3_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>His body was then immersed in liquid nitrogen at\u00a0<strong>\u2013196\u00b0C<\/strong>. Bedford\u2019s preservation marked a scientific milestone and sparked worldwide fascination with the possibility of defying death through technology.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-four years later, researchers at\u00a0<strong>Alcor Life Extension Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0examined his remains and found them surprisingly well preserved. His skin, though discolored in places, still showed youthful features, and the body remained largely intact.<\/p>\n<p>After inspection, Bedford was placed in a new container and returned to deep freeze, where he remains today\u2014over\u00a0<strong>five decades later<\/strong>\u2014awaiting a future that may never come.<\/p>\n<p>Before his death, Bedford reportedly said, \u201cI did not do this thinking I would be revived.
