It wasn\u2019t that Bowie was in it. It was about who was with Diana.<\/p>\n<p>The princess had arrived at the concert with\u00a0Major James Hewitt. There were rumors (that were later found to be true) about an affair between the two at the time, and the palace didn\u2019t want to add any more water to the rumor mill. Hewitt tried to keep a low profile and stayed out of the photographers\u2019 lenses. \u201cNo one knew who he was so I had no reason to picture him and the word wasn\u2019t out yet about their relationship,\u201d O\u2019Regan\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/royals\/article-14702859\/Palace-quashed-affair-rumours-Princess-Diana-David-Bowie.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So he decided not to publish the picture himself \u2013 and he still stands by his decision.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/princess-diana\/\">Diana<\/a>\u00a0later said in her biography that she was also criticized for her attire during the evening.
