Skin cancer is a serious subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-kevin-costner-showing-damage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kevin Costner showing \u2018damage\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Agreeing with that sentiment, Dr. Gabe Mirkin \u2013 who does not treat Costner \u2013 said the\u00a0<em>Field of Dreams<\/em>\u00a0star is already showing \u201cdamage\u201d.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-582049953\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-740960337cc6031380281e6c22bc37a9\" class=\"newsner-740960337cc6031380281e6c22bc37a9 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>Mirkin urges Costner \u201cto see a dermatologist yearly and have each successive basal cell removed before it becomes more extensive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Basal cell carcinoma is the \u201cmost common type of cancer, \u201cAccording to the American Academy of Dermatology Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aad.org\/public\/diseases\/skin-cancer\/types\/common\/bcc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AAD<\/a>). The organization says that people with \u201ca lighter skin tone\u201d who seldom protect the \u201cskin from the sun\u201d or use tanning beds, are at \u201ca greater risk of developing\u201d skin cancers.<\/p>\n<p>The AAD writes, \u201cBefore basal cell carcinoma develops, people with lighter skin tones often notice signs of sun damage on their skin, such as age spots, patches of discolored skin, and deep wrinkles.
