It\u2019s the most common cause of dementia. Symptoms usually first appear in people older than 65.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In general, it can weaken or completely eliminate spatial understanding, behavior and personality, language, reasoning, and\/or memory. As of today, there is no cure for Alzheimer\u2019s, but medications may manage symptoms and slow its progression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople with memory loss or other Alzheimer\u2019s symptoms may have difficulty recognizing changes in their own mind and body. These signs may be more obvious to loved ones,\u201d the Cleveland Clinic writes.<\/p>\n<p>Staci Marklin had a two-year-old son, Gunnar, when she noticed the first symptoms that something was wrong. However, initially, she dismissed the symptoms as having \u201cmom brain\u201d post the tough period of having a toddler.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-mother-who-was-diagnosed-with-early-onset-alzheimer-s-reveals-first-symptoms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mother who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer\u2019s reveals first symptoms<\/h2>\n<p>However, it wasn\u2019t. Staci Marklin had Alzheimer\u2019s and noticed that she began switching words around. She told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/health\/mom-early-onset-alzheimers-symptoms-266412-20251117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Unilad<\/a>\u00a0that, for example, she\u2019d say things like \u201cmove the carpet,\u201d instead of \u201cmove the curtain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere would be times when things would just disappear from my brain. Someone once asked me about a co-worker, and I had absolutely no idea who they were talking about. I could tell it was someone I should know by the way they were talking. It was a few days later when I realized it was a co-worker that I had worked really closely with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Staci\u2019s grandmother had Alzheimer\u2019s, and she began considering that she might have it too. While a doctor told her that it was rare for her age, it was the reality.<\/p>\n<p>After undergoing several tests, Staci was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer\u2019s in October 2024. An amyloid PET scan revealed amyloid plaques in her brain.<\/p>\n<p>At that time, Staci had already quit working, and as she saw the results, she understood what it meant. She and her husband were in shock, crying together, and knew that \u201cnothing would ever be the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-wants-to-break-the-stigma\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wants to break the stigma<\/h2>\n<p>Today, Staci Marklin has begun a new type of treatment called lecanemab. She has been very open about her diagnosis on TikTok, and wants to break the stigma surrounding Alzheimer\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople generally see this as an older person\u2019s disease and view people with Alzheimer\u2019s as if they can\u2019t do anything for themselves,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was difficult for me to get people to believe me and to trust the results I had gotten.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tennessee mother Staci Marklin was only 47 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s.
