The teenager\u2019s use was so frequent that he was \u2018heavily vaping\u2019 and was doing so till he was 16 years old.<\/p>\n<p>LeeRay who is a resident of New Zealand,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/health\/new-zealand-teenager-vaping-lung-371790-20251201?fbclid=IwY2xjawObillleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFrRks0dXFwZTRaclJRMzkxc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHk_1waWBDyobzKEX2WiE8I8jTp0TASEaGgm6EfQBm7wz_ooXGRkkWvkF6h-6_aem_-DRKb3813w6llz_mSrHzQQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0of his experience, \u201cI got kind of peer pressured into vaping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t like it at first but then got hooked on it within the first week. I was heavily\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/vaping\/\">vaping<\/a>\u00a0from 14 to 16. I went through about four disposables in a week. I would vape all day every day,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2024, LeeRay was admitted to the hospital because he had extreme pain in the left side of his body. This is when the extent of damage vaping had wreaked on his lungs was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Tests showed that this was due to a pneumothorax, a condition in which air leaks into the space between the lung and the chest wall. This causes the lung to collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the next few months, the teenager\u2019s lung collapsed four times. This led to surgeons performing pleurodesis, a procedure that makes a strong adhesion between the lung and the chest wall and prevents liquid from building up there.<\/p>\n<p>However, the procedure was unsuccessful as LeeRay had to go through a pleurectomy, a procedure that removes the lining of his chest.<\/p>\n<p>He then underwent another procedure where doctors removed a part of his lung that had been damaged. The piece of lung was shrivelled into a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/leeray.king\/posts\/pfbid0YLw1mZuPV6hrr31HsGwSghJS74ZYLvNkATjNgGRJpr2RnYWKxKrgEfTipsWaRCLLl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">black chunk, and pictures of it<\/a>\u00a0shocked everyone who saw them.<\/p>\n<p>LeeRay\u2019s mother now Kylee Jope said of the entire ordeakl, \u201cWhen we picked it up, LeeRay pulled it out and we were both like \u2018oh my god\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the damaged piece of the lung that they had removed. We\u2019re actually going to bury it at our house as a native tree. We were shocked,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never realised vapes could do this. They advertise it to help give up smoking. You\u2019re pretty much intentionally drowning your insides. Seeing my son go through that was horrifying,\u201d she went on to add.<\/p>\n<p>Now both the teenager and his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/mother\/\">mother<\/a>\u00a0want to warn others about the dangers of vaping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually went and talked to one of the primary schools near where I live. I don\u2019t want them going through what I went through. It was a pain that no one at a young age should be going through. I would tell anyone don\u2019t do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/teenagers\/\">teenager<\/a>\u00a0plans to never go through this again, he said of his habit, \u201cI\u2019ll never touch a vape again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you think of this story?
