Now, he has been arrested after the deaths of his parents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, resurfaced interviews with Rob and Nick Reiner have cast new light on their relationship.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A \u201dvery loud argument\u201d<\/h2>\n

Rob Reiner<\/a>, his wife Michele, and their son Nick were at Conan O\u2019Brien\u2019s Christmas party on Saturday night. According to Reiner family sources who spoke to\u00a0TMZ<\/a>, Rob and Nick got into a \u201cvery loud argument\u201d during the event \u2014 so loud that many other guests could hear it.<\/p>\n

Rob and Michele were then found dead on Sunday, December 14, inside their abode in Brentwood, California. According to The Mirror, authorities described the scene as a \u201chorror double murder\u201d involving what appeared to be stab wounds.<\/p>\n

Reiner was 78, Michele was 68.<\/p>\n

Now, Nick Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the deaths of his parents, according to the Los Angeles police chief Jim McDonnell. Jail records first indicated his bail was set at $4 million, but authorities later ordered that Nick Reiner be held without bail.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive for the killings. But as more details have emerged and police have identified a suspect, public attention has increasingly turned to Nick\u2019s relationship with the rest of his family, with fans revisiting past dynamics in search of context.<\/p>\n

Made a movie together<\/h2>\n

Years before the current tragedy, Rob and Nick Reiner had publicly explored their complicated father-son relationship through film.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the two collaborated on\u00a0Being Charlie<\/em>, a semi-autobiographical movie inspired by their family\u2019s real-life struggle with addiction. Nick co-wrote the script with a friend he met in rehab, drawing directly from his own experiences as an addict, while Rob directed the project.<\/p>\n

The film stars Cary Elwes as the father figure modeled after Rob, with Nick Robinson playing a character inspired by Nick. Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015,\u00a0Being Charlie<\/em>\u00a0follows Charlie Mills, an 18-year-old battling addiction while clashing with his famous father, David, a movie star running for Congress.<\/p>\n

Much like the Reiners\u2019 own story, the character resents what he sees as his parents\u2019 rigid, rehab-focused approach to his recovery.<\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s final moments are especially poignant. The father apologizes for how he handled his son\u2019s addiction, while still affirming his love. Charlie responds by saying he doesn\u2019t \u201chate\u201d his dad, embraces him, and quietly says, \u201ctake good care\u201d before walking away.<\/p>\n

Homelessness and rehab<\/h2>\n

That on-screen apology mirrored real life. Nick spent years moving between rehab centers and also faced periods of homelessness during his teenage years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Nick would tell us that it wasn\u2019t working for him, we wouldn\u2019t listen,\u201d Rob told the\u00a0Los Angeles Times<\/a>\u00a0during a family dinner that included Nick.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michele Singer Reiner echoed that sentiment, adding: \u201cWe were so influenced by these people. They would tell us he\u2019s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Nick said he was sober.<\/p>\n

Rob and Nick went on to do multiple interviews together, offering a rare and candid look at their relationship and the emotional process of making the film. Speaking on Paul Mecurio\u2019s podcast\u00a02 Chairs and a Microphone<\/em>\u00a0in 2016, Rob admitted that working together wasn\u2019t always easy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hashed everything out \u2014 sometimes it became fights and other things\u2026 we hashed it out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The advice his father gave him<\/h2>\n

Nick recalled a piece of advice his father gave him on set: \u201c\u2018There\u2019s one person on the set that has to make the final decision whether it\u2019s right or wrong\u2026 and that\u2019s the director.\u2019 After I heard that, I was like, \u2018Okay, I\u2019ll do what he wants me to do\u2026 but ultimately what gets into the movie is what gets into the movie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob later acknowledged that despite his decades of experience, he often deferred to his son.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were times where Nick would fight for certain types of things, my first instinct is, \u2018I have a lot more experience,\u2019\u201d Rob explained. \u201cBut then I realized\u2026 I don\u2019t have a lot more experience on this particular subject \u2014 what the young guy is going through.\u201d He ultimately called Nick the \u201cheart and soul\u201d of the film.<\/p>\n

Nick, for his part, shared what he learned about his father along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has sometimes a hard time expressing himself through conversation,\u201d Nick said. \u201cBut he listens. He\u2019s a great dad. He\u2019s best at explaining himself when he\u2019s in his element making a movie \u2014 showing how much he cares through that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following a screening Q&A, Rob described\u00a0Being Charlie<\/em>\u00a0as \u201ccathartic\u201d and \u201ctherapeutic,\u201d even though that hadn\u2019t been the original goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it turned out to be that,\u201d he said, admitting that their disagreements were \u201cat times\u2026 really rough.\u201d Nick added, \u201cSometimes it would get overwhelming for me. Sometimes it didn\u2019t feel like a movie \u2014 it felt like it was turning into more of something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michele\u2019s heartbreaking confession<\/h2>\n

In a separate 2018 appearance on the\u00a0Dopey<\/em>\u00a0podcast, Nick spoke candidly about a dark period during his addiction, recalling destructive behavior while staying in his parents\u2019 guest house.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went 10 rounds in my guest house,\u201d he said. \u201cI got totally spun out on uppers \u2014 I think it was coke and something else \u2014 and I was up for days on end\u2026 Everything in the guest house got wrecked. I literally punched the TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taken together, the interviews and the film itself offered a deeply personal portrait of a family trying \u2014 imperfectly, publicly, and with love \u2014 to navigate addiction, parenthood, and forgiveness.<\/p>\n

Tragically, something went terribly wrong over the weekend. As previously reported, TMZ was the first outlet to reveal the recent argument between Rob and Nick.<\/p>\n

According to sources close to the family, Michele had confided in friends in recent months that she and Rob were emotionally exhausted and deeply distressed over Nick\u2019s mental health struggles and his alleged substance abuse.
