Bruce Willis is now living in a one-story home separate from his family as part of his dementia care, as per his wife, Emma Heming Willis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking in a new ABC special,\u00a0Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey,\u00a0<\/em>Emma opened up on one of the \u201chardest decisions\u201d she\u2019s had to make so far in light of her husband\u2019s devastating diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Willis<\/a>, readers will likely remember, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023, less than a year after initially being diagnosed with aphasia.<\/p>\n

With the iconic\u00a0Die Hard\u00a0<\/em>actor having withdrawn from the spotlight, updates as to his condition have come few and far between. Back in March, a source told In Touch that Willis \u201cdoesn\u2019t express hunger much,\u201d explaining that his weight and decreased appetite are signs of a downward slope.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to family members, the challenge at home is making sure that he\u2019s getting enough to eat, that he\u2019s not skipping mealtime, and that his diet is filled with foods that have the chance to improve his health instead of subtract from it\u2026This is a sad situation that should be familiar to anybody who is dealing with a close family member with dementia or Alzheimer\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider further says his acuity is waning, added: \u201cHe can\u2019t communicate anymore, and he has difficulty recognizing people.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Emma Heming Willis revealed she was \u201ctriggered\u201d by \u201cblurbs of misinformation,\u201d that claimed \u201cthere is no more joy in my husband.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a new ABC special, released on August 26,\u00a0Emma told<\/a>\u00a0Diane Sawyer that her husband has now been moved into a separate home to accommodate his continued care.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters,\u201d Emma says of two children they share,\u00a0Mabel Ray, 13 and\u00a0Evelyn Penn, 11. \u201cHe would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emma told how the family had made the decision to move Bruce into a second home close by \u201csome time ago\u201d, having learned that noise can agitate the actor\u2019s condition. That meant that her daughters could no longer host playdates and sleepovers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know if parents would feel comfortable leaving their kid at our home,\u201d Emma said. \u201cI isolated our whole family, and that was by design\u2026That was a hard time.\u201d<\/p>\n

First symptoms<\/h2>\n

She also detailed how Bruce\u2019s new abode is more like a \u201csecond home\u201d for the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re there a lot,\u201d Emma explained. \u201cIt\u2019s our second home, so the girls have their things there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is, you know, a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter. It\u2019s been beautiful to see that, to see how many of Bruce\u2019s friends continue to show up for him, you know, they bring in life and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emma Heming Willis also opened up about her husband\u2019s early signs, describing them as \u201calarming and frightening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet and, when the family would get together, he would just melt a little bit,\u201d Heming Willis spoke to ABC about the first signs her husband experienced.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe felt a little removed, a little cold, not like Bruce who was very warm and very affectionate. To go the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBruce is still very mobile,\u201d Emma said elsewhere in the interview. \u201cBruce is in really great health, overall, it\u2019s just his brain that is failing him.<\/p>\n
