Despite this, the valuation from WeBuyAnyCar came as a harsh surprise.<\/p>\n<p>In a video posted to his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/social-media\/\">YouTube<\/a>\u00a0channel, which quickly gained viral traction, Perkins took viewers step-by-step through the appraisal process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMust say I\u2019m not looking forward to this one,\u201d he said candidly in the clip titled \u201cWeBuyAnyCar ruined my year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s see how much money we\u2019ve lost in the past year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-pretty-good-condition\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Pretty good condition\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWe all know what\u2019s going to happen he\u2019s going to lowball me, but that\u2019s WeBuyAnyCar for you \u2013 they\u2019ve got to make\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/money\/\">money<\/a>\u00a0they\u2019re a business at the end of the day,\u201d Perkins said as viewers watched the vehicle inspector check the electric vehicle (EV) for \u201cany chips or any marks, any dents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis car is in pretty good condition,\u201d Perkins added of the car, that had no significant damage and nothing that would traditionally justify a massive drop in value.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-shocking-valuation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shocking valuation<\/h2>\n<p>Similar Tesla Model Ys on platforms like AutoTrader were being listed at around \u00a336,000 to \u00a337,000 ($48,000 to $50,000 USD)<\/p>\n<p>Still, when the final valuation came in, Perkins \u2013 and his audience \u2013 were visibly shocked. \u201cSo, let\u2019s see what the price is. Are you ready, guys? Are you ready? Look at this,\u201d he said in disbelief.<\/p>\n<p>The offer: \u00a327,132 \u2013 roughly $36,700 USD. This figure represented a drop of nearly \u00a325,000 from the original purchase price.<\/p>\n<p>Asked to justify the valuation, the employee explained the Tesla was graded as a \u2018Grade 2\u2019 car. That means it had a few blemishes \u2013 but \u201cno chips,\u201d the evaluator said \u2013 as only a \u2018Grade 1\u2019 vehicle is considered to be in perfect showroom condition.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-teslas-depreciate-quicker-than-most-models\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teslas depreciate quicker than most models<\/h2>\n<p>A spokesperson for WeBuyAnyCar told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/2073052\/tesla-WeBuyAnyCar-valuation-one-year-man-gobsmacked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Express<\/a>: \u201cOnce a car leaves the showroom, it begins to lose value \u2013 typically up to 35% in the first year for petrol or diesel vehicles. This is higher still for EVs, which depreciate faster and typically have higher prices so more value loss through depreciation can be expected \u2013 in some cases up to 50%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFactors like age, mileage, service history, condition, and even the number of previous owners all influence its resale value.
