She began noticing that her son was displaying forgetfulness as well as some behavior she deemed as inappropriate.<\/p>\n<p>She also recalled how he became forgetful and unresponsive when spoken to. At times, he would be addressed and appear blank-faced, and other times, he would completely ignore it as if he did not realize he had been addressed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1672188634\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-80822201e6b0eb8fb1f52e761b5e44c0\" class=\"newsner-80822201e6b0eb8fb1f52e761b5e44c0 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>Alzheimer\u2019s Society\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/health\/man-young-onset-frontotemporal-dementia-passed-away-aged-24-151783-20260114?fbclid=IwY2xjawPVp39leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFQRWFIZmNNUzB6cmdhM0Y2c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHjubJcLR6JbdfHQ9c2ETey3rturCMZnjfz1wFcwRoX2EyGtSxL5F6abXfwrW_aem_3eGgFq9ue-hNUTbX_8Jcmg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">explained<\/a>\u00a0he \u2018first noticeable symptoms for a person with FTD will be changes to their personality and behaviour, or difficulties with language\u2019 and \u2018sometimes it can involve both\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is very different from the early symptoms of more common types of dementia,\u201d it goes on to say.<\/p>\n<p>It also adds, \u201cFor example, in Alzheimer\u2019s disease, early changes are often problems with short-term memory. Many people with FTD don\u2019t have a significant problem with their memory during the early stage of their condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the family sought medical attention for Andre, they discovered an unusual shrinking of his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/brain\/\">brain<\/a>\u00a0before he was diagnosed with dementia. While FTD affects everyone differently, symptoms tend to worsen over time.<\/p>\n<p>Andre was moved to a care home in September 2025. At the time of his admittance, he could walk. But soon his health deteriorated to a point where he had to use a wheelchair.<\/p>\n<p>A month before his death, he lost the ability to speak, his mother shared you could still \u2018hear him laugh.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>She reflected, \u201cOne thing it never done until the very, very end was take away his personality, his sense of humour, his laughter and his smile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He passed away last year just after Christmas on December 27. His family are now opening up about the harrowing experience with his illness to help show people \u2018how cruel [dementia] is\u2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1901882740\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-ac6dcd53f795520954be296e41a8bd47\" class=\"newsner-ac6dcd53f795520954be296e41a8bd47 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>His brain was donated by the family to science so that there can be more research done on the condition.<\/p>\n<p>Samantha said, \u201cDementia is a cruel, cruel disease. And I wouldn\u2019t wish it on anyone.
