Investigators currently believe her disappearance may be the result of an abduction, though no suspects have been named.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie and her family released an emotional public message, pleading directly to whoever may have taken her mother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not rest,\u201d Savannah said in the video. \u201cYour children will not rest until we are together again.\u201d She also addressed reports of a ransom message, urging the individual involved to make contact and \u201cplease reach out to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the growing public attention, experts warn that solving this missing persons case could be exceptionally difficult.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the suspect may vanish without a trace<\/h4>\n<p>Art Del Cueto, a longtime U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who lives just minutes from Nancy Guthrie\u2019s home, told the\u00a0<em>Daily Mail<\/em> that the surrounding environment poses serious challenges for investigators.<\/p>\n<p>Del Cueto is not officially connected to the investigation but has extensive experience navigating and tracking movement through southern Arizona\u2019s desert terrain.<\/p>\n<p>The area near Guthrie\u2019s home is isolated and surrounded by thick desert vegetation\u2014conditions that can easily allow someone to hide or escape without being detected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re on the southern border,\u201d Del Cueto explained. \u201cYou\u2019re dealing with international crime constantly, and there are simply too many variables to rule anything out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Tucson\u2019s proximity to Mexico complicates matters further. A suspect could potentially cross the border before authorities fully understand the scope of what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone panics and decides to run, they could be in Mexico in under an hour and a half,\u201d Del Cueto said. \u201cThat may be why law enforcement isn\u2019t releasing every detail they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Harsh terrain and limited visibility<\/h4>\n<p>According to Del Cueto, the combination of rugged desert conditions, low visibility, and access to international routes can severely limit search efforts and explain why investigators are being cautious with public information.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>Nancy Guthrie\u2019s neighborhood has also been described as difficult to navigate. Neighbor Morgan Brown, who lives about a quarter mile away, told\u00a0<em>US Magazine<\/em>\u00a0that the area quickly transitions from roadway to dense desert.<\/p>\n<div class=\"autors-widget\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIf you step just a couple of feet off the street, you\u2019re immediately in cactus and brush,\u201d Brown said. \u201cIt\u2019s not gated. It\u2019s just open desert\u2014scrubby mesquite trees, rocks, cactus everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown added that while early speculation suggested Guthrie may have wandered into the desert, that seems unlikely given that she uses a cane.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Former FBI agent offers additional insight<\/h4>\n<p>Del Cueto is not the only expert analyzing the case.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bryanna Cox, a former FBI special agent and current criminology professor at the University of South Florida, has also shared her perspective. Based on available information, she believes the person responsible is likely a male in his 30s or 40s and was probably unknown to Nancy Guthrie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this were a family member or someone familiar with the home, there likely wouldn\u2019t have been forced entry,\u201d Dr. Cox explained. \u201cIf she knew the person, they might have used deception instead\u2014convincing her to leave voluntarily and get into a vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the investigation into this high-profile missing elderly person case continues, law enforcement officials stress that time is critical.
