R.I.P. my brother\u2026..Dash Crofts.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-nickname-explanation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nickname explanation<\/h2>\n<p>Darrell George Crofts was born on August 14, 1940, in Cisco, Texas. He had a twin sister named Dorothy and earned the nickname \u201cDash\u201d as a baby when his mother entered them in a \u201cbeautiful baby\u201d contest, playfully suggesting they\u2019d be even cuter as \u201cDot\u201d and \u201cDash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crofts began his musical journey as a drummer before meeting saxophonist Jim Seals. The pair first played together in the rock band The Champs and later in the groups Glen Campbell and the GCs, as well as the Dawnbreakers, before forming Seals &amp; Crofts.<\/p>\n<p>Their debut album arrived in 1969, but it was 1972\u2019s\u00a0<em>Summer Breeze<\/em>\u00a0that launched them into superstardom. The album went gold and eventually sold two million copies, with the title track reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n<p>Their music became the soundtrack of the \u201970s, with hits like\u00a0<em>Diamond Girl<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Get Closer<\/em>. Following the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, the duo released\u00a0<em>Unborn Child<\/em>\u00a0in 1974, voicing their anti-abortion stance\u2014a move that sparked intense debate.<\/p>\n<p>Even as trends shifted and the band eventually disbanded in the early \u201980s, their music endured, with brief reunions in the late \u201980s, early \u201990s, and finally in 2004 for their last album,\u00a0<em>Traces<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Crofts\u2019 contributions to music were immeasurable. \u201cAbout the same time as people like Crosby, Stills and Nash, we realized that we had to get out of the money-making aspect of loud rock \u2019n\u2019 roll into some music which we really believed in,\u201d he once told\u00a0<em>Record Mirror<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-bandmate-jim-seals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bandmate Jim Seals<\/h2>\n<p>Critic Robert Christgau called the results \u201cclassic folk-schlock,\u201d but for millions of fans, the duo\u2019s tender melodies and spiritual themes were timeless.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his musical legacy, Crofts returned to his native Texas later in life, dedicating his time to raising horses and reflecting on a career that had touched countless hearts.<\/p>\n<p>His bandmate Jim Seals, who passed away in 2022, had described the soft-rock duo\u2019s magic as a combination of friendship, shared vision, and unshakeable harmony \u2014 qualities that defined Crofts both on and off the stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Baha\u2019i Faith teaches the unity of people of all races, creeds, religions, politics and truths.
