She survived the fall, but her injuries left her paralysed from the waist down. Credit \/ X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In March 2021, Spanish lawmakers legalized voluntary euthanasia and assisted death. Under the law, voluntary euthanasia involves a doctor administering a lethal injection to patients who qualify.<\/p>\n<p>When the law was passed \u2013 strictly for Spanish citizens \u2013 only adults with \u2018serious and incurable\u2019 conditions that inflicted \u2018unbearable suffering\u2019 were deemed eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Noelia had been scheduled to undergo euthanasia one month after seeing her application approved in August of 2024. The process was immediately halted, however, after her father filed a legal objection.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2025 he appeared in court to urge a judge to cancel the procedure entirely, claiming that his daughter suffers from a personality disorder that affects her judgement. The father\u2019s lawyers argued that Noelia had changed her mind on the idea of euthanasia several times, thus proving that she wasn\u2019t absolutely certain it was the right course of action.<\/p>\n<p>Noelia herself attended those same legal proceedings.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/crrdqdky9gxo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">As per the BBC<\/a>, she said at the time: \u201cI want to finish with dignity once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judge in question ruled in her favor, with the Catalan government\u2019s legal representation claiming they\u2019d observed \u201cno evidence of a scientific or expert character has been presented to contradict the many medical reports which support the decision [to die].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in a television interview given to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cSBjAVVS3Do&amp;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Televisi\u00f3n P\u00fablica Noticias<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week, the 25-year-old revealed that none of her family members support her decision to take her own life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a pillar of the family.
