(Photo by Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An amber warning light subsequently appeared on the loo, but the crew were able to patch things up to ensure it remained in working order.<\/p>\n<p>Those onboard the Orion reported a \u2018blinking fault light and mission control teams successfully assessed the data and worked with the crew to troubleshoot and resolve the issue\u2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-687717411\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\">\n<div id=\"ad-modul_intext_190710_1\" class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"CNfCtOmw35MDFezqDQkdIOgfdg\">\n<p>Reports claim that Mission Specialist Christina Koch was the astronaut who addressed the issue, though it now appears there were lingering problems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/artemis-II\/\">Artemis II<\/a>\u00a0Flight Director Rick Henfling explained in a press conference yesterday (Tuesday, April 7) that the crew\u00a0<em>can<\/em>\u00a0use the toilet, but things aren\u2019t perhaps working exactly as they should.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe toilet remains operational,\u201d Henfling explained. \u201cThe challenge that we\u2019re working through is evacuating the tank. The vent is a lot less than we were expecting, and so we\u2019re having to fall back to some other alternate means, other than the toilet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NASA had previously revealed in a statement that the\u00a0capsule\u2019s toilet system\u00a0had a jammed fan which prevented normal urine disposal.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also been reported that the astronauts themselves noticed a burning smell coming from the toilet system, with Hansen providing an update on the situation last Friday (April 3).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, it was some sort of burning odor, and then it was definitely in the hygiene bay,\u201d Hansen explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd when I opened up the hygiene bay, the rest of the crew could smell it pretty much immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artemis II flight director Rick Henfling has shared an update on the malfunction that was noticed by crew just moments after lift off last week.
