Gen-Z has a lot of differences from the generations before them. And we might not understand all of them, but it might do well for us to understand some of them so we can always be in the know.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This piece will tell you about how something that might be innocuous for us can be considered \u2018rude\u2019 to someone else.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From Baby Boomers and Gen-Xs\u2019 confusion about millennials, now comes everyone being confounded by Generation Z. There are a lot of behaviors that Gen Z (much like any young\u00a0generation\u00a0has) displays that are not as easily understood by those older than them.<\/p>\n

A lot of\u00a0young\u00a0people apparently do not think the \u2018thumbs up\u2019 emoji is a nice one and consider it to be \u2018passive agressive\u2019 referring it to as something that can even prove to be \u2018triggering\u2019 to some of them.<\/p>\n

A Gen-Z individual who recently joined the workforce\u00a0shared, \u201cI started an \u2018adult\u2019\u00a0job\u00a0where we use Microsoft Teams to connect with each other for work. Currently, there only a few emojis you can use to react to a message (unless of course, you respond, and can use any emoji). Most people at work use the \u2018thumbs up\u2019 reaction all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

They went on, \u201cI don\u2019t use it much. I either \u2018heart\u2019 reactions or reply, even if it\u2019s a short \u2018Great!\u2019 or \u2018Thanks!\u2019 (I also feel like I usen too many exclamation marks, but that\u2019s a different story).<\/p>\n

They concluded with asking others for their opinion, \u201cAnyway, I think it\u2019s normal for to \u2018thumbs up\u2019 messages, but I still feel like it\u2019s such an unsettling response.
\nDoes anyone else feel this way?\u201d<\/p>\n

One user echoed this sentiment and\u00a0shared, \u201cFor younger people (I\u2019m 24 for reference) the thumbs-up emoji is used to be really passive-aggressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

While another\u00a0added, \u201cIt probably feels unsettling because it\u2019s impersonal, and based just off this post, you seem like the kind of person who prefers more genuine interactions with others.\u201d<\/p>\n
