The toddler had severe injuries, bruises, and cuts on his face. Initially, staff claimed another child had caused Clay\u2019s injuries with a toy. But video evidence told a different story.<\/p>\n<p>The case centers around an incident at Little Blessings Child Care in Bainbridge, a small city near the Florida state line.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-c53b3af507d1dc0ef301d73891c96a0f\" class=\"newsner-c53b3af507d1dc0ef301d73891c96a0f newsner-incide_content_once\">\n<div id=\"newsner-135863205\" class=\"newsner-incide_content_once\">\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails\" class=\"trc_related_container tbl-trecs-container trc_spotlight_widget\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A Georgia woman has now been arrested on multiple child abuse charges after the 1-year-old boy was allegedly attacked at a church day care facility, leaving him with a swollen face and a black eye.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities confirmed that Yvette Thurston, 54, was taken into custody on Monday and now faces three counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of first-degree aggravated battery, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrdw.com\/2025\/08\/16\/georgia-day-care-worker-charged-with-first-degree-child-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WDRW<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following Thurston\u2019s arrest, a judge set her bond at $44,000. The pictures show the toddler\u2019s face visibly swollen, with cuts and bruising around his right eye and cheek.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-435673002\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-5b779406d47271106e30d453920f19ca\" class=\"newsner-5b779406d47271106e30d453920f19ca newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis is every parent\u2019s worst nightmare and we had to live it and are still living it,\u201d Weeks wrote. He explained that both Clay and his older brother, Wyatt, 3, had started at the facility that day.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks said he was initially told that another child had injured Clay with a toy. But after demanding answers, he claimed to have obtained video surveillance footage showing Thurston assaulting his son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing we saw was for the faint-hearted, especially happening to such an innocent soul,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe severity of the acts of violence to our son has everyone confident that this was not her first time. We trusted this facility to care and love our kids and on their first day that was violated.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-rushed-to-hospital\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rushed to hospital<\/h2>\n<p>Clay was rushed to Memorial Hospital and Manor, where doctors treated his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe want EVERYONE to be aware that this happened.
