Abramovi\u0107\u2019s version flipped the script, exploring themes of gender, energy, and creation from a female perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving intense physical experiences in public, being stimulated by the footsteps of visitors above me, it\u2019s really not easy, I tell you!\u201d Abramovi\u0107 told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/nymetro\/arts\/art\/15228\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Art<\/a>\u00a0in 2005. \u201cI\u2019ve never concentrated so hard in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the audience could only hear her voice, never see her, the performance demanded extraordinary endurance. Credit: Alamy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a more recent appearance on Bella Freud\u2019s\u00a0<em>Fashion Neurosis<\/em>\u00a0podcast, Abramovi\u0107 went deeper into the emotional and physical toll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe piece required hours of intense focus under the stage,\u201d she said. \u201cAfter a certain point, it was really difficult. I was completely drained, but I take my work seriously, so I pushed through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Abramovi\u0107, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/art\/\">art<\/a>\u00a0performance wasn\u2019t about provocation; it was about transformation. She described the climax as a moment of raw vitality, a connection to the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou feel life, you feel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/nature\/\">nature<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/birds\/\">birds<\/a>, the rocks, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/trees\/\">trees<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 everything becomes luminous,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Her goal was to explore what female energy could produce, contrasting Acconci\u2019s original metaphor of seeding with her own interpretation of creation, presence, and vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p>As always, Abramovi\u0107 is unapologetic in her approach. \u201cI don\u2019t fake it,\u201d she said. \u201cI never fake anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your thoughts?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marina Abramovi\u0107 is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of performance art, or her own body.
