Everyone is like family. We are devastated and completely at a loss for words.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\"><\/div>\n<p>MORE: DC plane crash victims: What we know about those aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, Army Black Hawk<br \/>\nThe figure skaters and coaches returning from the recent U.S. national championships in Wichita, Kansas, were aboard the American Airlines flight that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday evening, officials said. No survivors were expected in the crash, officials said Thursday. There were 64 people aboard the plane and three in the helicopter, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>Wichita Mayor Lily Wu also offered her condolences during a press conference, becoming emotional when stating there are not any survivors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts are heavy as a city,\u201d Wu said. \u201cOur hearts are heavy as a city council, and we are here to provide the support needed for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zeghibe identified the skaters from the Skating Club of Boston as Jinna Ha and Spencer Lane. Ha\u2019s mother, Jin Han, and Lane\u2019s mother, Christine Lane, were also on board. Zeghibe also identified the two coaches as Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov. The two were 1994 World Pair Champions who joined the club in 2017, Zeghibe said.<\/p>\n<p>The Skating Club of Boston<br \/>\nJinna Han is seen in this undated photo.<br \/>\nThe Skating Club of Boston<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix is a horrific number for us but we\u2019re fortunate and grateful it wasn\u2019t more than six,\u201d Zeghibe said. \u201cThis will have long reaching impacts for our skating community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalya Gudin, the wife of Alexandr Kirsanov, a coach of two youth ice skaters on board the flight, said she has \u201clost everything.\u201d Gudin, also an ice skating coach, decided to stay home in Delaware while Kirsanov flew to Kansas for the development camp. She says she spoke with her husband as he boarded the flight on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lost my husband, I lost my students, I lost my friends,\u201d Gudin told ABC News. \u201cI need my husband back. I need his body back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Figure Skating organization confirmed that \u201cseveral members\u201d of the skating community were aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which took off from Wichita, Kansas, and collided with the helicopter as it approached Reagan National Airport shortly before 9 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas,\u201d the organization said.<\/p>\n<p>The Skating Club of Boston<br \/>\nSpencer Lane is seen in this undated photo.<br \/>\nThe Skating Club of Boston<\/p>\n<p>MORE: DC plane crash live updates: Figure skaters, coaches aboard flight that collided with Black Hawk<br \/>\n\u201cWe are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims\u2019 families closely in our hearts,\u201d the organization said. \u201cWe will continue to monitor the situation and will release more information as it becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were 60 passengers and four crew members aboard the jet and three personnel aboard the Army helicopter, which officials said was on a training flight at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Officials have not publicly confirmed the number of fatalities in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>MORE: What to know about the deadly American Airlines and Black Hawk helicopter collision<br \/>\nAt an early Thursday morning news conference, officials said they were continuing search-and-rescue operations in the icy Potomac River but did not say whether anyone had been pulled from the water alive, or confirm any deaths.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Sarah Hirshland said the young skaters who were lost \u201crepresented the bright future of Team USA, embodying the very essence of what it means to represent our country \u2014 perseverance, resilience and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were remarkable young people and talents, passionately pursuing their dreams, and they will forever hold a cherished place in the Team USA family,\u201d Hirshland said in a statement. \u201cWe extend our sincerest condolences during this unimaginable time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russian media reported that two Russian figure skaters were on board the American Airlines flight, and the presidential spokesman expressed condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the plane crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were other of our fellow citizens there. Bad news from Washington today,\u201d Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, several Russian state media outlets reported that the 1994 world figure skating champions in pairs, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were on board the plane, though U.S. authorities have not confirmed these reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Skating Club of Boston<br \/>\nVadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova are seen in this undated photo.<br \/>\nThe Skating Club of Boston<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma City figure skating coach Jackie Brenner was in Wichita with the skaters, coaches and officials who were aboard the flight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was there on Sunday at a coaching workshop, which was the first day of U.S. figure skating development camp as they were coming into their two days of training,\u201d Brenner said. \u201cHuge excitement in the arena and lobby of all these families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olympic medalist and renowned ice skater Nancy Kerrigan fought back tears as she explained the impact this incident has on the skating community, urging others to \u201ctell people around you that you love them, because you just never know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkating teaches you the main lesson in life: You get back up,\u201d Kerrigan said during a press conference Thursday. \u201cEven when it\u2019s hard, even when you\u2019re crying, even when you\u2019re hurt. And that\u2019s what we all have to do now \u2014 together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Figure Skating community has been struck by tragedy in a plane crash before. An entire U.S. figure skating team died in a plane crash on Feb. 15, 1961. The plane, Sabena Flight 548, was carrying the team to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Along with the team, 16 family members, coaches and friends of the skaters died in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike today, 1961 was a tragic moment, it was the day the music stopped, very much like this,\u201d said longtime member of the Skating Club of Boston Paul George during a Thursday press conference. \u201cIt was a very vivid reminder of 1961.
