I really just put it off as being tired, or I\u2019m dehydrated, or it\u2019s the weather.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThen nothing would happen for months, and I didn\u2019t pay attention. But when it hit this hard, I had to pay attention.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"Christina Applegate Says 'Dead to Me' Helped Her Cope With MS Diagnosis: 'It Was Cathartic'\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4XrkRUoPR6c?feature=oembed\" name=\"fitvid0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\" data-origwidth=\"\" data-origheight=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When the actress disclosed that she needed a wheelchair to go to set toward the end of the season\u2019s filming, she broke down in tears.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cMy symptoms had started in the early part of 2021, and it was, like, literally just tingling on my toes,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Applegate told Robin Roberts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd by the time we started shooting in the summer of that same year, I was being brought to set in a wheelchair. Like, I couldn\u2019t walk that far,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>she added, referring to her hit Netflix show Dead To Me.<\/p>\n<p>She also mentioned that despite experiencing<strong>\u00a0\u201cexcruciating pain,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0she has become accustomed to it.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/01\/arts\/television\/christina-applegate-dead-to-me.html\">the New York Times<\/a>, Applegate first discussed her MS diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Although it was very challenging to finish the production once she began her treatment, she was continuing to record the third and final season of Dead to Me at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere was the sense of, \u2018Well, let\u2019s get her some medicine so she can get better,\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>she said.\u00a0<strong>\u201cAnd there is no better. But it was good for me. I needed to process my loss of my life, my loss of that part of me. So I needed that time.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She did, however, also stress that she had a\u00a0<strong>\u201cduty\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0to her job.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the show\u2019s executives reportedly wanted to stop filming when she began undergoing treatment, she stated,\u00a0<strong>\u201cI had an obligation to Liz and to Linda, to our\u00a0<\/strong>story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIf people hate it, if people love it, if all they can concentrate on is, \u2018Ooh, look at the cripple,\u2019 that\u2019s not up to me,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0she said.\u00a0<strong>\u201cBut hopefully people can get past it and just enjoy the ride and say goodbye to these two girls.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She also admitted to singer-turned-talk-show presenter Kelly Clarkson back in 2022 that she frequently uses her career as an actress as a diversion from her personal issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019ve probably been going through grief and trauma my whole life, and acting was the place that I got to go to not feel it, you know?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>she said at the time, noting that she used acting to avoid dealing with past breakups, trauma, deaths, and breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>She continued,\u00a0<strong>\u201cThe beauty of Dead to Me is that it gave me almost this weird platform of dealing with it, where I didn\u2019t have to be on all the time and I didn\u2019t have to make all the jokes and I could fall apart in a scene.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd it was, like, me.
