{"id":6281,"date":"2025-02-12T20:53:28","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T20:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news-vm.com\/?p=6281"},"modified":"2025-02-12T20:53:28","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T20:53:28","slug":"breaking-news-navy-pilots-forced-to-eject-as-jet-crashes-into-san-diego-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news-vm.com\/?p=6281","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING NEWS Navy pilots forced to eject as jet crashes into San Diego Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A US Navy aircraft crash landed and two pilots were forced to emergency eject over San Diego in another shocking aviation incident over US skies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The EA-18G Growler, one of the most powerful aircraft in the US military arsenal, which crashed into the San Diego Bay near Shelter Island on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The cause of the downed jet is not yet clear, however early reports suggested it was flying in rough weather off the West Coast when it fell from the skies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Emergency crews including 60 personnel, two boats, five fire engines and a helicopter team were rushed to the scene around 10:15am local time, San Diego Fire and Rescue said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Several crews with the Navy were also seen working the crash site to prevent fuel from spilling into the waters from the downed aircraft as they work to retrieve it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Military officials said two pilots were on board and successfully ejected before the plane crashed, and were saved by a chartered fishing boat with H&amp;M Landing that was first on the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Both pilots were raced to UC San Diego Medical Center in stable condition after being rescued from the waters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Reports suggest the plane crashed into the bay in close proximity to the Kona Kai San Diego Resort and a number of businesses along the shoreline.<\/p>\n<div class=\"artSplitter mol-img-group\">\n<div class=\"mol-img\">\n<div class=\"image-wrap fff-pic\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-17fc8df6293bab54\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2025\/02\/12\/20\/95147615-14390599-image-a-92_1739391544142.jpg\" alt=\"A US Navy\u00a0EA-18G Growler aircraft (seen in a stock image) went down and two pilots were forced to emergency eject over San Diego on Wednesday\" width=\"634\" height=\"423\" data-gallery-handler-attached=\"true\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2025\/02\/12\/19\/95145117-14390599-image-a-87_1739387148115.jpg\" alt=\"Images showed emergency services racing to the scene on the San Diego Bay near Shelter Island, where both pilots were successfully rescued from the waters and taken to hospital\" \/><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2025\/02\/12\/20\/95145115-14390599-image-a-91_1739391116242.jpg\" alt=\"The plane crashed into the bay in close proximity to the Kona Kai San Diego Resort and a number of businesses along the shoreline\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The owner of the H&amp;M Landing fishing boat that picked up the pilots said staff on the boat sprang into action when they saw the aviators eject from the military aircraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;As all of our crews are trained in lifesaving efforts, immediately came about, turned around picked up both pilots that were in the water,&#8217; general manager Frank Ursitti told\u00a0NBC San Diego.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;And as they were boarding the pilots on the water, [the captain] observed the plane actually ditch into San Diego Bay.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Ursitti said the plane crashed into the bay within minutes of the pilots ejecting at the last moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He said both pilots were conscious when they were pulled from the water. They were reportedly in stable condition, however officials have not yet disclosed the extent of their injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The most recent incident involving an EA-18G Growler aircraft came in October 2024, when one of the\u00a0<span data-track-module=\"internal-body-link\">Navy fighter jets crashed near Mount Rainier in Washington State, leading to the deaths of both pilots on board<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"artSplitter mol-img-group\">\n<div class=\"mol-img\">\n<div class=\"image-wrap fff-pic\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-2990172d5a5d69b5\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2025\/02\/12\/20\/95147657-14390599-image-a-93_1739391615000.jpg\" alt=\"The\u00a0EA-18G Growler (seen in an unrelated image from 2018) is one of the most powerful aircraft in the US military arsenal\" width=\"634\" height=\"421\" data-gallery-handler-attached=\"true\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It comes after a wave of aviation accidents rocked the US in recent weeks, including one of the worst air disasters in recent memory 14 days ago when an\u00a0<span data-track-module=\"internal-body-link\">American Airlines passenger jet collided with a military helicopter over Reagan National Airport<\/span>, killing 67 people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Days later, a\u00a0<span data-track-module=\"internal-body-link\">small air ambulance crash landed in Pennsylvania<\/span>, killing six people aboard the jet and a seventh on the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">These disasters were followed by a small jet dropping off radars in Alaska last week,\u00a0<span data-track-module=\"internal-body-link\">leading to the deaths of all 10 people on board<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">And two days ago,\u00a0<span data-track-module=\"internal-body-link\">a private jet owned by Motley Crue singer Vince Neil crashed<\/span>\u00a0when its landing gear failed while touching down at an airfield in Scottsdale, Arizona, killing the pilot and injuring three others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A US Navy aircraft crash landed and two pilots were forced to emergency eject over San Diego in another shocking aviation incident over US skies.
