Then she had another brain bleed. They\u2019re not sure what set it off.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThey said her brain swelled very quickly and was pushing on her spinal cord as well and it just shut her whole body down.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt went form thinking they could do something for her to them saying there was nothing they could do.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although they are uncommon, brain hemorrhages rank among the top 10 causes of death for children, according to Dr. Lisa Murphy, CEO of the Stroke Foundation, who spoke to Daily Mail Australia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s small numbers but it can often be catastrophic or in the very least absolutely life changing,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Dr Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt changes people\u2019s lives in an instant. What that family is going through at the moment is absolutely terrible.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s turned their world upside down. I\u2019m not surprised how shocking this is because it\u2019s devastating.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, this week is Childhood Stroke Awareness Week, which is organized by the Stroke Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Because \u2018people just don\u2019t know about it,\u2019 the organization determined that it wanted to increase awareness of childhood stroke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou think stroke and you think granny or grandad. You don\u2019t think of babies and children and we need to start talking about it,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Dr Murphy said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWe need to raise awareness in parents about childhood stroke.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>According to Dr. Murphy, diagnosing a stroke in a toddler is<strong>\u00a0\u201ctricky,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0but it\u2019s essential to the infant\u2019s survival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe thing about stroke is it happens often in an instant with no warning signs,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe key is if something happens, act on it immediately. That doesn\u2019t mean call your GP, it means call an ambulance.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cEvery minute after a stroke 1.9million brain cells die so the sooner you get to hospital the better.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s interesting to note that stroke occurs more frequently in babies than in older kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIn newborns it\u2019s when those congenital conditions appear,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Dr Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s really tricky but things you can look out for are seizures, irritability, vomiting and excessive sleepiness.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe other thing is if they\u2019re not moving one side of their body because stroke happens on one side of the brain.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The family has created a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/allira-gunn\">GoFundMe<\/a>\u00a0campaign to raise just $4,000 to cover the costs of Allira\u2019s funeral, which is now being planned by Ms. Casper and her husband Adrian.<\/p>\n<p>Allira has a seven-year-old brother named Rylan who loved his younger sister, and a sixteen-year-old stepbrother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s a very difficult time.
