She got a foothold in Hollywood early on, her mother worked for the Swedish-American actress Ann-Margeret.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to her mother\u2019s contacts, Bo got herself an agent at age 16 \u2013 something that would give her a first film role in the movie\u00a0<em>Once Upon a Love.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The film was shot on the romantic island of Mykonos, in the Greek archipelago. During the shooting of the movie, Bo met her future husband, John Derek. The couple soon fell in love and began a relationship. She\u2019d been very gracious and kind \u2026 And I just saw her yesterday, funny enough. We were at a jewelry trunk show for charity. And she was just as fabulous and wonderful as ever. I always feel like sh*t when I\u2019m around her. It\u2019s just ingrained, years later,\u201d Bo told<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.interviewmagazine.com\/culture\/bo-derek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0Interview Magazine<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Because Bo was a minor at the time, John was at risk of being arrested in the United States, so the couple spent some time in Europe and Mexico to avoid age of consent laws in California. They later married in Las Vegas in<em>\u00a01976.<\/em>\u00a0She was 19 and he 49.<\/p>\n<p>After they tied the knot, Bo\u2019s career took off. John placed her in his movies \u2013 often in challenging poses and situations, to create buzz around his low-budget films. In the movie \u2018<em>10<\/em>\u2018, Bo established herself as one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. John had always thought that that would be a good look for me, just for photography\u2014he\u2019s a great photographer. And we tried it. And he said, \u2018Why don\u2019t you take these pictures into Blake and see if he\u2019ll go for it. It would be really good for the part, so you don\u2019t look ordinary,\u2019\u201d she told<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interviewmagazine.com\/culture\/bo-derek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0Interview Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After the success of \u2018<em>10<\/em>\u2018, Bo Derek appeared in several of her husband\u2019s films, including\u00a0<em>Tarzan, The Ape Man<\/em>\u00a0(1981),\u00a0<em>Bolero<\/em>\u00a0(1984) and\u00a0<em>Ghosts Can\u2019t Do It<\/em>\u00a0(1990), all of which were met by negative reviews. Bush and the Republican Party in the 2000 and 2004 election campaigns. However, she says she doesn\u2019t support any party at the moment and she voted for Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>One of her biggest interests is horses (especially Lusitano, a Portuguese\u00a0<em>horse<\/em>\u00a0breed) and she has also written an autobiography called\u00a0<em>Riding Lessons: Everything That Matters in Life I Learned from Horses.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/07\/05214521\/bor-scaled.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For some time, she was also engaged in horse breeding on her ranch. A widow since 1998, the 63-year-old Bo is now involved with the former \u201cSex and the City\u201d star and actor John Corbett, 59.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe enjoy each other\u2019s company; we make each other laugh. After 15 years we still hold hands; we still have barbecues with friends a couple of times a week,\u201d Bo says.<\/p>\n<p>The couple met back in 2002. After almost 20 years together, Bo and Corbett tied the knot during a private ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe\u2019re pretty private people. We didn\u2019t make an announcement. All our friends and family knew but this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven\u2019t had an opportunity.
