Some of you might recognize her from\u00a0<em>Arrested Development<\/em>, and she even appeared in an episode of\u00a0<em>Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond her career, she\u2019s also a devoted mom to a daughter she shares with a well-known and groundbreaking actor. The couple met during a casting for a movie, it was Ann\u2019s first casting job. They clicked and married in September 1993. Three years later, they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Mayan.<\/p>\n<p>For a long time, their high-profile marriage seemed solid, but everything changed in the early 2000s when her famous husband received a devastating diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors told him his kidneys were failing due to a genetic condition, and he needed a transplant to survive. Timing was critical, but he delayed the surgery for a year, consumed with fear that the truth about his condition would leak to the press. But eventually, it was clear he needed help. That\u2019s when Ann stepped in, offering something extraordinary \u2014 her own kidney.<\/p>\n<p>For her, it was an easy decision, as she once said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt\u2019s amazing to be able to help another human being in this way. You\u2019re giving the gift of life,\u201d she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com.ua\/books?id=T8j5Nj8FvroC&amp;pg=PA10&amp;dq=george+lopez+kidney+transplant&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjKqbeps9v9AhVQSvEDHZKCAMUQ6AF6BAgFEAI#v=onepage&amp;q=kidney&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The surgery was a success, and the iconic actor was lucky that his body accepted the new organ. To top it off, he even lost 45 pounds as his health improved. Thanks to Ann\u2019s generosity, they looked forward to more happy years together. None other than George Lopez, best known for starring in his hit sitcom\u00a0<em>The George Lopez Show<\/em>. Today, he has grown into one of our most beloved comedians and in 2005, he was named one of \u201dThe Top 25 Hispanics in America\u201d by\u00a0Time\u00a0magazine.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-abandoned-by-his-parents\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Abandoned by his parents<\/h2>\n<p>Born in 1961 in Los Angeles to a Mexican migrant worker, George Lopez had anything but an easy start in life. Abandoned by his father when he was just two months old and later left by his mother at the age of 10, George was raised by his grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>A shy and introverted child, he spent much of his time lost in daydreams. No cars could go from zero to 60 as fast as my grandmother could go from calm to upset.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-discovered-by-sandra-bullock\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Discovered by Sandra Bullock<\/h2>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t long before George was approached by Sandra Bullock, who was frustrated by the lack of Hispanic representation on TV.<\/p>\n<p>ABC agreed, and in 2002, George became one of the few Latinos to star in a sitcom. The show was a hit, watched by nearly 10 million viewers during its first season. George was the co-creator, writer, producer, and star.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its success, the show was canceled in 2007, and George wasn\u2019t happy. He famously told the\u00a0<em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>, \u201dTV just became really, really white again.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-155549\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/09\/24085105\/shutterstock_180073112.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/09\/24085105\/shutterstock_180073112.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/09\/24085105\/shutterstock_180073112-768x510.jpg 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"664\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Professionally, it was a big loss, but at the time, George had just overcome a life-threatening situation.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-secret-surgery\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Secret surgery<\/h2>\n<p>On April 19, 2005, he was wheeled into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center under the alias \u201cTom Ace,\u201d unsure if he\u2019d make it through.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Ann\u2019s selfless act, he did.<\/p>\n<p>Both underwent surgery in side-by-side operating rooms, and by the next day, their daughter was visiting them at the hospital. Ann said she felt no different having just one kidney.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-155550\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/09\/24085334\/shutterstock_103730588.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"1000\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201dThere was no question. When you are put in that position where you could possibly lose someone you love, it\u2019s a very easy decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But despite everything they went through, the marriage didn\u2019t last. After 18 years as husband and wife, the couple announced their separation. Ann filed for divorce in 2010, citing \u201dirreconcilable differences,\u201d and it was finalized in 2011.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-cheating-on-his-wife\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cheating on his wife<\/h2>\n<p>Ann has spoken candidly about their marriage\u2019s breakdown, pointing to George\u2019s chaotic upbringing as a factor. George himself admitted during an interview with Piers Morgan that he was partly to blame for their split, even acknowledging that some of the criticism he received after their divorce was deserved, especially given that Ann had saved his life.<\/p>\n<p>To outsiders, Ann and George appeared to have it all, but beneath the surface, things were far from perfect. About six years into their marriage, things took a turn. George seemed to understand the gravity of his actions, and for a while, it appeared he had learned his lesson. But Ann made it clear \u2014 if it happened again, their marriage would be finito.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it did happen again, and this time it was very public.<\/p>\n<p>Ann found out the heartbreaking truth by reading it in a tabloid. In that moment, she realized the man she had loved and supported was living a double life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt was a pretty devastating way to find out,\u201d Ann told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AAmK-MsEFf0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TheHourGlass Podcast<\/a>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>This was something Ann could not tolerate, and she made the painful decision to file for divorce. Unsurprisingly, Mayan stood firmly by her mother\u2019s side, supporting her through the heartache<\/p>\n<p>Years later Mayan, revealed more about her parent\u2019s relationship on TikTok, asking them directly why they got divorced. Ann responded, \u201dYour dad didn\u2019t realize you have to stop dating other people when you get married.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"CKTsg9L1mYwDFYixgwcdv3sFGA\">\n<p>A year later, Mayan, who is also building a career as an actress, posted another video with the caption, \u201dHe cheated. She divorced him. We kept almost everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-went-into-therapy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Went into therapy<\/h2>\n<p>George has been more reserved about the details but has expressed regret over the hurt he caused, especially to his daughter. Not only did they reconcile, but they also turned their personal struggles into art. In fact, Mayan asked them a decade later if they still loved each other, and both admitted they did.
