You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, \u2018What are you doing on Monday?\u2019 And you go, \u2018I don\u2019t know,\u2019 because I don\u2019t know my schedule,\u201d Dempsey said. \u201cDoing that for 11 years is challenging. But you have to be grateful, because you\u2019re well compensated, so you can\u2019t really complain because you don\u2019t really have a right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, what happened early 2015 might explain his on-set behavior.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-122408\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2023\/03\/05190340\/shutterstock_254453044.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"1000\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On January 23, 2015,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/radaronline.com\/exclusives\/2015\/01\/patrick-dempsey-divorce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Radar Online<\/a>\u00a0delivered some breaking news with a story that said, \u201cMcDreamy is about to be on the market!\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-558202445\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\">\n<div id=\"ad-modul_intext_122404_1\" class=\"ad-space\" data-google-query-id=\"CMzBwsbfnowDFVWJgwcdurYPkA\">\n<p>Dempsey, also a professional race car driver, was at a 24-hour race event in Daytona Beach, Florida, when Jillian Fink, his wife of 15 years at the time, filed for divorce.<\/p>\n<p>To make things right, Dempsey left his role as Dr. McDreamy and focussed on his role as a husband and father. He told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/celebrity\/patrick-dempsey-on-saving-his-marriage-with-wife-jillian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">People<\/a>\u00a0that the potential end of his marriage was \u201cscary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur marriage was not something I was prepared to let go of. I didn\u2019t feel like we had done all the work. And we both wanted to do that work. target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/a>\u00a0(2021), Dempsey confessed to resenting the\u00a0Grey\u2019s\u00a0schedule. \u201cIt\u2019s 10 months, 15 hours a day. You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, \u2018What are you doing on Monday?\u2019 And you go, \u2018I don\u2019t know,\u2019 because I don\u2019t know my schedule,\u201d Dempsey said. \u201cDoing that for 11 years is challenging. He told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/celebrity\/patrick-dempsey-on-saving-his-marriage-with-wife-jillian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">People<\/a>\u00a0that the potential end of his marriage was \u201cscary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur marriage was not something I was prepared to let go of. I didn\u2019t feel like we had done all the work. And we both wanted to do that work. We wanted to be role models for our kids like, okay, if you have differences, you can work them out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cYou can only do one thing at a time and do it well,\u201d he says. \u201cI (learned) to prioritize. Our union has to be the priority. I wasn\u2019t prepared to give up on her and she wasn\u2019t either. We both wanted to fight for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, they called off the divorce and in 2023, the couple celebrates their 24th wedding anniversary.
