It\u2019s genetic that I inherited from my daddy\u2026There\u2019s no cure for it, but it\u2019s been affecting me for years.\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/country-star-alan-jackson-announces-cmt-diagnosis-today-t232178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Jackson shared<\/a>\u00a0about the illness he\u2019s been battling 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been reluctant to talk about this publicly and to my fans\u2026It\u2019s called CMT, ironically enough, because CMT was a big part of my career,\u201d the singer added.<\/p>\n<p>John Hopkins Medicine describes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/disease\/\">CMT<\/a>\u00a0as \u201can inherited disorder that affects the nerves supplying the feet, legs, hands, and arms. It is caused by gene defects that are nearly always inherited from a person\u2019s parents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer of \u201cChattahoochie\u201d explains that both his grandmother, and older sister also have CMT.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto%2F%3Ffbid%3D10155804947135347%26set%3Da.385705555346&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"608\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s getting more and more obvious. And I know I\u2019m stumbling around on stage,\u201d said the Georgia born singer, who\u2019s often seen on stage propped up against a stool or pole. \u201cAnd now I\u2019m having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-one-more-for-the-road\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018One More for the Road\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The next year, Jackson embarked on a 16-show tour,\u00a0<em>Last Call: One More for the Road Tour<\/em>, emphasizing it was not a \u201cfarewell tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying I won\u2019t be able to tour. I\u2019ll try to do as much as I can. I don\u2019t want people to be sad for me, it\u2019s just part of life,\u201d said the singer whose physical decline is affecting his ability to perform.<\/p>\n<p>But after taking some time off, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/country-music\/\">Country<\/a>\u00a0Music Hall of Fame member realized he wasn\u2019t quite ready to step away from performing.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2024, he extended his tour, each show \u201cmarking the last time he\u2019ll ever perform his more-than-30 years of hits,\u201d according to his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alanjackson.com\/news\/alan-jackson-announces-a-return-to-touring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don\u2019t want to miss!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-raw-emotion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raw emotion<\/h2>\n<p>Nearing the end of his tour \u2013 May 17, 2025, in Milwaukee \u2013 emotions are running high.<\/p>\n<p>One particularly poignant moment came during his March 2025 performance in Orlando, Florida, at the Kia Center.<\/p>\n<p>Leaning up against a stool that offered his weak body some stability, Jackson stood under the glow of the stage lights, and his voice started trembling with raw emotion as he poured his soul into \u201cDrive,\u201d the song written in 2002 for his father Eugene, who died in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Overcome with emotion, the singer shared with the audience that the hit song recounts childhood memories of learning to drive and the special bond he shared with his dad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a song I wrote quite a few years ago when my daddy passed away. I wanted to write a song for him; I didn\u2019t want to write some old crying-dying typical kind of thing, you know?\u201d Jackson said of the song, a final conversation with the father who shaped him.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWhen I started thinking about growing up, all I ever wanted to do was drive something. He taught me all about that. The crowd, moved by the raw emotion, erupted into thunderous applause, lifting him up in a moment that will be remembered long after the tour ends.<\/p>\n<p>Though this may be Alan Jackson\u2019s last tour, his legacy is far from over.
