It turns out, there\u2019s a significance to the trend \u2026<\/p>\n<p>The hours between 3:00am and 5:00am are sometimes referred to as the hour of the wolf, after Swedish director Ingmar Bergman\u2019s psychological horror<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hour_of_the_Wolf#cite_note-Genre-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">[<\/a><\/sup>film of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe hour between night and dawn \u2026 when most people die, sleep is deepest, nightmares are most real. It is the hour when the sleepless are haunted by their worst anguish, when ghosts and demons are most powerful. The hour of the wolf is also the hour when most babies are born,\u201d Bergman explained.<\/p>\n<p>According to Professor Birgitta Steene, the title is derived from Swedish folklore, wherein the \u201chour of the wolf\u201d signifies the timeframe between 3:00am and 5:00am.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-55bb357282aced2b11420206e0ca90fe\" class=\"newsner-55bb357282aced2b11420206e0ca90fe\">\n<div id=\"newsner-1574587517\">\n<div id=\"94a0255c-13ae-4b1f-8e98-1df7b45c6dbc\" class=\"pbs\" data-pbs-root=\"true\" data-pbs-position=\"static\" data-pbs-device=\"desktop\" data-pbs-video-title=\"true\" data-pbs-sticky=\"bottom-right\" data-pbs-size=\"medium-large\" data-pbs-logo-pos=\"right\" data-pbs-content=\"playing\" data-pbs-player=\"content\" data-pbs-slot=\"ended\" data-pbs-content-type=\"mcd\" data-pbs-hover=\"true\">\n<div id=\"exp_7f11bdf6-eea3-4b1f-9110-5f7ea31362d9-placeholder\" class=\"exco_sticky-placement\">\n<p>This period is believed to be associated with a higher occurrence of both deaths and births. It\u2019s also precisely that time when the body often slips into its deepest rest, which is why the body\u2019s functions can be so affected by it.<\/p>\n<p>In folk traditions, the witching hour, also known as the devil\u2019s hour, is a nocturnal period linked to supernatural occurrences. It is believed that during this time, witches, demons, and ghosts are thought to manifest and wield their greatest influence.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-the-hour-of-the-wolf\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The hour of the wolf<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For those who are able to sleep as normal, the hour of the wolf represents the period wherein sleep is at its deepest. For those who wake up, however, it supposedly represents the time when feelings of anxiety are at their most potent.<\/p>\n<p>The body\u2019s circadian rhythm (the 24 hour cycle of physiological processes) tends to follow the sun\u2019s rise and fall, meaning that things such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuck.com\/thermoregulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">body temperature<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4513487\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">blood pressure<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uamshealth.com\/healthlibrary2\/medicalmyths\/latenighteating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">metabolism<\/a>\u00a0go down during the night.<\/p>\n<p>At around 4:00am they are at their lowest, since this is when the body has entered its natural rest stage.
